hi guys i have a ? how do we go about getting our alberta health cards renewed whilst waiting on new work visas and also do we still keep the same sin number as our permits run out on november 17th so will our health cards because everything is linked to the date of expire of permits ... SIN and Health care . how do you continue to get health cover whilst waiting on work permits ? thanks carol

You can't.

You can try to tell them you are on implied status and if they fall for it, they will renew it but you can't renew it without an actual work or study permit. If you make use of the health care system, they will pass you the bill. If you don't get the work permit, you will have to pay it. If you do get it, then you can go to the register office with your permit, explain the situation and they will do the paper work to pass the bill to the Alberta health care.
That's the reason why your driver license expires a year after your WP expires(at least in AB).
Don't worry about the SIN. Employers never ask for the actual card(that has an expire date) but rather the number. If you get the permit they won't even notice and you can still work since you're on implied status. If you don't get it, then you need to stop working at the moment you know it(which is right away after they make a decision because they email you right away).
Something similar happened to me. CRA didn't bother to do anything for a few months. I got my study permit and work permit renewed and forgot to renew my SIN. After like 6 months(around the time to do taxes) my employer told me my SIN was no longer valid and that's when I renewed it.

Your SIN will always be the same while on a temporary visa. Starting with a 9. Once you get PR, the number changes. Usually starts with a 6 if you are in Alberta.
