My girlfriend is currently a study permit holder, while I have a PGWP. We both applied for a permanent residence, but since she will have to take more time to finish her studies, we will have to extend her student visa, since it's very unlikely we'll get the PR anytime soon.
Meanwhile we would like to travel outside of Canada for a week or two and we are wondering if we should start applying for the study permit after we come back. The reason is that I am not sure how the implied status is supposed to work: I know it is lost when leaving the country, but do we lose it as well when we come back while her current study permit is still valid if we applied for an extension before leaving? I would expect no, since as far as I understand one enters the implied status the moment the current papers expire: am I correct?
