Good evening!
I am writing this topic because I applied for a bowp after receiving my AOR about 2 weeks ago. My visa expires in March, and I won't get my bowp before then (I am still having nightmares that my bowp won't be accepted even though I still have a job, got my AOR and I am currently in Canada)...
So my question is: while I am still waiting for my bowp, I am still allowed to work as I will have the "implicit status", meaning I am allowed to work under the same conditions as my current visa. However, my SIN will expire, as will my Alberta Health insurance number...
I won't have my visa yet, so I wanted to know how I could extent my insurance. I applied online, but I have no idea how I could do that...
Has anyone been in the same situation as me? What did you do?
Any advice will be more than welcome! :)

Why do you have that nightmare? If everything is in place you'll get your BOWP, so don't worry. It's just a matter of time.

On the second note, yes you can still keep on working till they come up with a decision on your BOWP. And it's called "implied status". Your SIN will not expire, as long as you are eligible to work you can use your SIN number. It's up to you to stop using it.

About your insurance you can't do much about it. You can go and insure yourself with third party companies for as little as $1 a day, so you just stay safe. If you want to.

My suggestion: don't freak out, stay calm and patient. During your implied status as I mentioned you can still insure yourself, but I wouldn't worry about that too much. Keep working and your BOWP will be at your door step in no time.

Best of luck mate,

Thank you so much for your super quick answer! Indeed I meant implied, not implicit... My French and English tend to mix after a long day...

Thanks a lot again! :)

Good afternoon,

After doing some research and calling immigration canada, it seems like we cannot have the implied status as we are changing our visa (for me: going from a closed work permit to an open one). As it is a new visa, I am not allowed to work and my SIN will expire, until I receive my bowp. However, I am allowed to stay in Canada as a visitor...

Have you heard anything like this? I really can't keep working if I'm not supposed to, and my boss needs to know if he should replace me or not...

My visa expires in March 28th.

I hope this helps: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=189&t=17
You applied for BOWP already, and as long as you remain here in Canada while working with that same employer, you should be fine...

Thanks for your quick answer!

I read this link as well, but apparently, according to the person I talked to this morning at Immigration Canada, as I am changing my visa (from closed work permit to an open one), I am not allowed to work while waiting for it. I know a LOT of people have been and are currently in the same situation as I am, so I was wondering what happened to them, and if they had any issue afterward with their PR application?

Well, there are too many people here who got the wrong answer from CIC telephone lines. And I was one of unlucky bunch as well, so I won't depend on that line for such inquiries. Maybe that person meant that you cannot work with OTHER employer/positions while waiting for the approval of your BOWP. Or, you could try calling 4 different agents to see what they say, make sure you emphasize that you are sticking with the same employer & same positions. Don't be surprise if all of them come up with different answers...

But I am quite positive that you will obtain your implied status when transitioning from closed work permit to an open one, as long as you meet the requirements. Maybe other seniors can provide more insights here...
