Immigration Photos from the UK

My husband is in the UK and we are in the process of doing an outbound immigration for him to come live in Canada with me ...He went to a photographer that looked at the specs that are on appendix b and he was advised if he wanted to save money to go to one of those passport photo booths because they can do the same job as a professional photographer there and the specs are the same ...only thing we are wondering is the background on those pics would be slightly greyish and not pure white ...wondering if that would make a difference if we send the pics in to immigration?

I hope that won't be a problem because that is exactly what I've done and when I measured everything it was all fine and although the background isn't pure white, the photo booth I used at Asda looks quite light anyway.

I know it might be cheaper..but would you not rather do it the right way and avoid possible delays...??? just a thought

I took mine to a photographer as i believe the specs are different.

I compared the dimensions in the appendix b with those of a photo booth picture i had taken for my medicals (around 5 needed if i recall) and i'm sure from memory they didn't match.

I'm not sure, but the 'face' dimensions are too small from the machine? (i.e it needed to be zoomed in a touch) I decided you could do it with a machine, but the trial and error to get the distance from the screen wasn't worth it as it's £4 each time to get it right...

I gave the actual specs from the appendix to the photographer for the 8 photos and in the end it only cost me around £12-£15 i think.

Compared with the medical fees and the application itself, i just had to suck up the cost :-[

I must just have that kinda sized head, cause the pic I took, matching it with the circle on the screen came out at exactly the right size.

Although as we needed 8 pics for the application it is almost £10 anyway, so either way I think would be fine hopefully.

You need 8 photos. A photo booth is 4 pounds for 4 photos.

We got ours done by a Photographer who charged 6 pounds for 8 photos, and he knew the requirements for the Immigration Photos for Canada without us even showing him the forms (I brought them with me for reference but when we walked in and said we needed some photos for Immigration, he said, "Which country?" We said, "Canada," and he said "Okay have a seat" and said he knew what to do). He made sure they were fine when printed, and it was so reassuring to have such a professional!

If you're near London or if you're making a trip, I STRONGLY recommend him. He's underneath Charing Cross Station (if you walk down the stairs to the Tube in front of Charing Cross Rail Station and just walk along the corridor you'll see it), in a small shopping area. It's called ID Photoshop. I got my Canadian passport photos and my partner's Immigration Photos done - according to this Photographer, Canada has the most strict and most specific photo requirements of any country he's provided photos for.

My husband went to a professional this morning to get 8 immigration photos ...we didnt want to risk any delays ...the background was a light gray and the requirements are the same in the UK as in Canada...regardless he brought in appendix b to the photographer and it cost him £5.99 for 8 photos ...Thanks for everyones help ...

Ok so my husband is getting ready to send out his package to me for his immigration to Canada and hes concerned that because the background of the photographs are a light gray and not white that it may be rejected ...it was professionally done in the UK but he wants to know if it will make that much of a difference to Canadian immigration when he sends in the pics ...the specs are right on, so thats not an issue ...anybody had any experience with this? ...

Well, i'm sure (ish) that my photo's taken by a photographer weren't on a 'white' background, but it was a VERY light grey. We were approved (pending return of passport) so I'd have to say it's a judgement call without really knowing how 'grey' the background is...

I went to Jessops - not many people seem to know that a lot of their branches do passport photos. They did citizenship piccies for me & my boys, then I went back and they did our Canadian passport ones and my fella has had his PR ones done there now too. Reasonable price and because they do it on a digital camera I could check that I didn't look too awful and each time they have sized and signed them while we waited...I've been really impressed with them

I am making my own on photoshop! Immigration pictures are the same as UK passport pictures. Canadian passport pictures are different to UK passport pictures, that's why the canada visa forms says that immigration pictures are not the same as passport pictures. As long as the measurements are correct and there is a 5-10% grey background they will be fine.

Not for passport photos. Canadian Passport Photos require a professional photographer who signs and dates the back with their company and address - you can't manipulate them on Photoshop or any other image editing software for all Canadian official photos (like passport photos).
