Friends,

I am Permanent Resident of Canada and currently working with Saskatchewan based well reputed company in Accounting area with Permanent full time job.

I have very good friend of mine and currently works with India based well known Bank as Assistant Manager in Operations with close to 6 years of work experience with Permanent Job. He doesn't have IELTS though and is married. He is very much willing to Come to Canada as Visitor and then look for employment or other possible immigration options from there on.

I have plans to visit India this month and looking to apply for his Visitor visa and Invite him in Canada for about month to stay with me. He is planning to take around 3-4 weeks leave from work to come here.

Is it advisable, shall we go for Visitor visa first, invite him and try our options from there ? Are there any other better options for him in case if he comes to Canada as Visitor and can extend his stay or apply for immigration may be in any skilled worker category ?

Please share your thoughts and experiences !

Thank you !

He needs to take IELTS to apply for PR. So that should probably be his first step (rather than visiting Canada).

Also, if he has been thinking of applying for PR through the FSW occupation stream, then being in Canada has no benefit. He can just as easily apply from outside of Canada.

Overall, if his main aim is to immigrate to Canada, then I would strongly recommend he first spend time researching Canada's immigration programs and understanding them in detail before he makes any plans to actually visit Canada.

At present, he is working in a good position in India and has annual leaves pending for about 3 weeks, that is what he thinks to utilize time and visit Canada for about a month and try if he can find any employment, meet people and explore opportunities here, so that he can extend his stay here and move from there.

I am not too sure whether this is right move or not, but being his friend and his hopes, all we are thinking is to take chance, put 100% efforts and see if that works.

Hi DK84, Your friend can refer to the 'Express Entry' Program which is starting from Jan 2015. As far as finding a job is concerned, does your friend has a professional certification. Having a professional certification may help in getting a job. Unfortunately Canadian employer doesn't consider any professional exp. which has been gained outside Canada with some exception (IT related work). Since you mentioned that your friend is working for Bank in his home country, you can't expect him to be hired by Canadian Banks immediately.

I would also recommend him to do very thorough research on the Canadian job market prior considering immigrating to Canada. I don't want to be Devil's advocate here, but I am putting the facts in front of you.

Secondly, don't think about the option of extending the stay at this point of time. Generally visitor visa are provided for 6 months(provided your friend has sufficient documents to show strong ties to his home country).

Thanks for your thoughts ! Do you know how express entry program works ? My friend's intension is basically try out to find a employment and may be at least he can set up couple of interviews and represent himself, his skills and experience and let the employer decide, if they can help him to get status.

Not banks but I guess there are quite a few credit agencies or financial institutions are also out there, all we look for is number of options.

I am not sure how express entry program works, but would certainly like to know, thanks for your inputs though !
