Immigrating with Children

Hi all,

I am looking at immigrating to Canada through being sponsored by my wife. I am an Australian Citizen and my wife was born in Canada but moved to Australia at the age of 4 (Dual Citizen). I have filled in the applications but I wasn't sure about a couple of things and hoped someone here might be able to help

A couple of questions
1. My wife has an expired Canadian passport, should she re-new it first? Would it help the process of applying to be a sponsor?
2. Will she need to apply for citizenship or is it just a given?
3. Will our 3 children (8, 12, 14) need to apply for citizenship before going or at the time of landing?
4. Should my PR application include our kids as my dependents or do they enter as my wife's dependents? (I found this one hard to figure out based on the application form so I hope that they can just go in with her as I suspect that would be easier)
5. What technically happens to our Australian citizenship status after immigration. All of us.

Thanks in advance

Craig

1) it would not hurt to get it. She needs the ID to prove she's Canadian
2) If she has Cnd passport, she would have citizenship already. Either she has birthcert or citizenship card or both. These would also prove her citizhenship, but my own suggestion only...passport would have most recent photo, so it's a "no brainer" proof if your wife includes that as part of the sponsorship documentation
3) If your wife was born in Canada, she would be able to pass on citizenship to the kids...all of them. Apply for their citizenship immediately...I would suspect that your wife can apply for the kids while back in Canada...but I would start the process
4) As only you are not PR or citizen, the application is just about you...you would have no dependents which require application
5) You retain your citizenship (as would your kids). Even after getting Canadian citizenship, you do you lose your Auz citizenship

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
1.Since she has been living outside Canada for a long time, she can obtain both birth certificate and canadian passport.

In order to apply for citizenship for your children, she should submit her birth certificate (my husband did) as a proof of Canadian citizen.

2.it took 6-7 months to receive citizenship Cert. for my daughter, so you can start soon.

3. There are some question on the form that you need put your children. (not sure but principal applicant and sponsor forms)
you can add their birth certificate (Canadian if you can obtain by the time, or Canadian passport as a proof of Canadian)

Good luck

You really need to apply now for Certificates of Citizenship for your kids. Do not delay this at all, as it can take a year to get them.
