Hello,
My ex-wife and I immigrated to Canada as married couple 10 years ago, 3 kids were born in Canada and after 7 years, we divorced in our country of origin. Then we went to court here in Ontario for child custody and child support matters. We have filed the translated copy of the divorce from our country during this process and we have a final judgement from the Ontario court regarding child support and custody. We have been divorced now for 4 years.
I am now about to remarry and I would like to know if the divorce has automatically been registered here since we had submitted the divorce judgement from outside Canada and obtained a final judgement from Ontario regarding the children. We have also been filing our tax returns as divorced for the last 4 years.
Will I get a marriage license without issues or will I still need to get an opinion letter from a lawyer to register the divorce?
