The situation is like this:

A person already receives his PR card but has not yet landed. He wants to get married before landing in Canada. Since when he was issued a visa while he was still single and lands in Canada as married, would that comprise misrepresentation? Would it be alright to get married prior to landing in Canada as a new immigrant or would it be better to land in Canada, and then get married?

Thanks!

1. Yes, as the spouse was not examined, not part of family class so cannot be sponsored.
2. Land, then go home and get married, that is if you wish to keep your PR status.

Hi pmm.

I received my immigrant visa as a single person along with my copr just recently but then i informed the embasst that i am getting married before i land to canada. They had given me instructions on what to do and accomplish and submit all the requirements at a specific date but then the wedding would not push through and I decided to go to canada as a single person. Can i go there without complications even i dont accomplish whats in the instructions?. Thank you so much . I woud appreciate your answer on this matter

It will be much easier and better for you to land as single and get married after you have landed with your PR. If you misinterpret the instructions given, you could make a big mistake with misrepresentation, or not having your spouse examined before hand, which would then deme them as not a part of Family class and also you would then be at risk of losing your PR for misrepresenting. Land first as single, then go back and get married after. Open up a family sponsorship application after you have landed, gotten married, and returned back to Canada. The other way is just too risky for a bad mistake to be made.

As I am assuming she is not included as family member in any part of the process, then
when you want to sponsor her she may automatically become ineligible, some other cases
never get their spouses because of small mistakes like that... it may become misrepresentation
you better avoid any problem and do things in the proper order..
Land.. and when you want and can go back and have a nice wedding...
make sure that you take a look to all the facts that immigration will look in your application
and do things in orderly way...
will be better for both of you... you and your future spouse

Another question - did you live with your fiancee(or girlfriend) for at least 1 year? If yes, then she is considered your 'common-law' spouse(according to immigration rules) and you can not land as 'single' even if you are not yet married. In this case, you need to first add her to your application and wait for her to be processed before you land.
