Hello, My Spouse has her travel booked for 10th June 25 and the Oath is now scheduled after a long wait on 3rd June. Is it really feasible to complete oath and get a new passport in time, here in this case. Below are some queries I have on this.
1. In the current state, do we get the Citizen Certificate Immediately or at the most in a day or two?
2. Are Urgent Canadian Passports really working in a day or two
3. Out of country stay will be for 3 months in India. Should we surrender Passport in India or we have to wait and do it from here after coming back.

Any relevant advice is appreciated. Also do let me know, if I have to be wary of something here. Initial option we have picked is to move this Oath to September by requesting them. We were told that Finger prints expire on 2nd July. If we move it, then we have to redo biometrics and then plan the oath.

Thank you

1. Advice from IRCC at oaths is that you shouldn't count on applying for passport / using the oath certificate for either three or five days - most people get the certificate shortly thereafter [after the ceremony that is], or on the spot for an in-person ceremony. This is tight, but do-able, if you are in a big city and pay for the most urgent passport prep service. (Delaying departure by a week would save a LOT of concern and hassle)
2. Yes.
3. I have no comment/ no experience.

Now note: your spouse does NOT need the Canadian passport to depart Canada. Only to return to Canada.

If anyone you know is coming after, they can bring the passport with them (obviously make arrangements to pick up). Note, some courier companies won't deliver passports to some countries.

In theory, can also apply for the Canadian passport in India (I think service time is 4-6 weeks) - if convenient to do there.

Personally my suggestion would be to take the oath before departing and work to get the passport done on time here (urgent delivery or have it brought by someone later) - OR get the passport done in India after. Check carefully the requirements and be prepared.

But your choice of course.

Depending the urgency of your travel with proof of travel/booking they even give you the passport on the same day. Passport Canada does charge extra for the expedited request
For SC certificates please ask your questions in the appropriate thread. My suggest is to only apply for SC from Canada. The rules for surrendering your Indian citizenship and cancellation of Indian passport varies from different cities/metro

The tickets were booked long back for our kid's summer trip to grand parents. Cancelling them would be even more expensive. Should we have to mention the urgency reason or we can simply say travel is already booked.

Check the passport office website. I believe proof of travel required for one-two business day service, not for longer

Does providing the Itinerary is sufficient or a reason statement is also required. If reason is a must, can we sight this is along booked holiday.

At some point, you're going to have to look up a specific location and read the instructions.

https://ircc.canada.ca/english/passport/map/map.asp

For the ones I have looked at, all it says is proof of travel. There is no mention of a reason statement. If there is, saying you already have tickets and can't change them is a reason.

It will be tight if you have any online oath. For in person you need to wait 2 business days and can apply her passport on an urgent basis by just showing her ticket she can get it the next business day. Ofcourse there is an additional fee.

Hope this helps. All the best.

I have just received an in person Invitation. Should we be sticking with this option, and is this 2 days mandatory. If the hard copy is given on 3rd June, can we not go there on 4th to apply? Will it be rejected? Anyone has come across similar situation, pls advice.

Out of HArd or soft copy, what is my best option to select one for Urgent passport

Hard copy is better - you will receive it in person, and there won't be any delay in getting one electronically (which shouldn't happen, but can happen - rarely). (You can still submit for passport applications with a copy, because it's a new one. Don't worry about that though because they return them on the spot when you apply in person for passport).

Personally I'd suggest go ahead with the ceremony you have.

The 'days delay' thing: they will tell you at the ceremony that you can't use it to apply for a passport for 3 or 5 business days (I don't know which, I forget). Here's the thing: we do not know why there is this delay. It probably is because they don't submit and finalize the 'this person is now a citizen 100%' file to database immediately - they give themselves a bit of time. [They don't do this until it's confirmed the person has given the oath in person.] Possibly they give it some time to 'propagate' the info through the IRCC citizen database.

My guess is that in reality the staff do it the same day and the database propagation thing - well, maybe in the old days they did this twice a week or had some complicated system. Probably in reality it actually happens overnight.

My suggestion: ASK the people at the ceremony - tell them you'll need to apply for passport ASAP. Maybe they'll tell you that you can risk it after two days and it should be in the database properly; maybe they'll say the next day is fine.

But at any rate: you have the oath ceremony on the 3rd, a Tuesday. My serious guess is you'll be able to apply Friday morning, without much concern.

As backup - you apply for the passport before you leave, and someone brings it to you/couriers it, or you apply for the passport when you're abroad. Again, you don't need your Canadian passport to leave Canada.

I can't guarantee this of course.

Hard copy. In person they will give it at the same day after completing your oath.

Once passport is in hand, should I be filing for a e-Visa to India or I can still travel with Indian passport, as the surrender won't be done yet.
