Hello everyone,

I'm filling out IMM 5708 now to request and extension of my visitor status.

I don't know what to put for "COMING INTO CANADA" Question 1 - "date and place of original entry to Canada". I assume that means my First visit to Canada?

I don't remember. It was 20 something years ago, I was a little kid and I guess my parents and I crossed a land border from the US. Maybe. I don't know where we went. Niagara falls maybe. Or maybe we went somewhere else.

What am I supposed to put? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Ohhh okay, thanks a lot for clearing it up!

I'm visa exempt and I've never had a Canadian visa before and I've come and gone all my life without thinking about it, so I didn't quite get what "original entry" meant.

Thanks a lot!!!!!

Sorry was trying to edit the original post.

Going back I see there is a caveat there. Q#3 - which states recent entry to Canada. This would be where most appropriate to place your recent visit date (this current visit). This is what you are trying to extend.

Q#1 should be answered when the original entry was done and you will be correct - this would be intended to identify if you have traveled to Canada in the past. If there has been a previous travel to Canada (as you mentioned 20 years ago) - for full disclosure, you can ascertain an approximate date in the past and answer this. IMHO it will not matter given that history is so far back. Even if you are visa exempt, records may still do exist (although for that far back, unlikely)...:):)

Q#1 and Q#3 should be answered the same if this is the first time to travel to Canada.

apologies for the snafu on the earlier post.

In my understanding Original Entry to Canada refers to the latest significant entry to Canada. Usually this is known as "on-going trip" or "move to Canada" date (usually you can know this because there is no "return date" available). For example if you came here as a student in 2010 and then made several trips back and forth from home and vacations, interviews abroad then your original entry to Canada would be 2010 (all other trips are considered to be part of an ongoing trip that started in 2010). If you were back in the days to Canada but you closed that trip (for example came to study in 2000 but went back to your home country in 2002 after finishing it "for good") this would not be our original entry to Canada neither other trips that already have a return date.

So for this example Original Entry to Canada should be the date when he enter Canada in this trip. If other "subtrips" (e.g. shoppin' in the US) happen then you annotate this date in "latest entry to Canada".

I must say I don't have any resource that support my understanding but several successful applications filled this way.
