Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask what has probably been asked before but I am confused about the checklist in 3901.
My situation is as follows - my wife is a naturalized Canadian citizen sponsoring me for a PR. We have been living together for more than 7 years (outside Canada) and have been married for four. We have a 9 month old baby daughter who received her Canadian Citizenship Certificate last month. I have not included either my spouse or daughter in my IMM0008 form as they are both already citizens and the other forms are quite clear as to when I need to include family members that are already Canadian citizens/PR. However, form 3901 is not very clear on this:

- Do I need to provide 8 photographs of my spouse and daughter as well as myself?
- Do I need to send copies of their travel documents (i.e. my wife's Canadian passport)?

At the moment, I have my birth certificate, my wife's divorce certificate from her previous marriage, our marriage certificate, my wife and daughter's citizenship certificates. Is this enough?

Also, I am a dual citizen and I note this in IMM0008 - do I send copies of both passports or just the one that I want my PR in?

Is it a big deal to send originals rather than certified copies? For some reason translators will certify their translations based on originals but will not certify photocopies while municipal authorities etc. do not write their certification notes in English. Is it OK to send originals with certified translations?

Has anyone had any experience with international birth and marriage certificates? They are written in French and the language of the country in which you take it out - would these be accepted by the CIC or is it better to just translate originals?

Finally, my wife's divorce certificate was translated four years ago, is this considered valid?

Thanks in advance - this forum is an irreplaceable ally in this frustrating process.

You don't need to send the visa photos for your spouse or child. If I remember correctly, your wife needs to show some proof of identity in the sponsor forms. I was the sponsor and sent a copy of my passport and a copy of my birth certificate.

If the certificates are in French then there is no problem. French is an official language in Canada so you don't need to do anything to these.

I would send a copy of both passports just in case. Also, maybe indicate which one you want to be travelling on for pr purposes.

I know of people that sent originals instead of copies.mi personally sent exactly what they asked for in he country specific guide,

Thanks a lot, it does get very confusing at times. I guess it has to since the forms are generic and each story is unique.

if you remember that your wife and child are not considered your "spouse and family" for application purposes, then you will avoid the confusion. your wife is your SPONSOR, not your SPOUSE. The "spouse" listed on the forms is for when a couple is being sponsored TOGETHER by a third person. I believe the only form where your wife and child are listed as your spouse and child is the Additional Information Form that must be filled out by ONLY you.

Follow the checklists for each person (Sponsor and applicant), and there should be no issue. On th sponsor checklist, a copy of a passport is required. I don't think a birth certificate is.

But surely I mention my wife on IMM0008 when it asks me whether I am married and details about the spouse? I know that she is the one sponsoring but I guess I still need to say I am married when asked.

So for my wife and baby daughter, all we need is the copy of the former's passport and the latter's citizenship certificate? I have birth certificates et al, they are easy to get but it would make it a much more presentable application if I can remove as many of the unnecessary papers as possible.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.
yes, of course, when asking about the relationship between you and your sponsor, you need to tell them about the marriage. that is the basis of the application. if you look at the questions closely, i believe they say "sponsor" not "spouse". CIC looking for information about your relationship to your SPONSOR, who consequently is your spouse.
