Hello everyone,

My husband is an American and is currently on an extended visitor visa and I am a Canadian citizen. We are doing the outland application and on form IMM0008 question #4 it asks requested office? Which office would my husband put? I know I am suppose to mail it to the Mississauga office. Also can we only mail it? I would prefer to express it that way I can get a tracking # on it.

CPP-O (Processing Pilot Office in Ottawa) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp

We sent the application by Courier so that we could track it.

You need to send it to the Mississauga office, and yes, do it by courier and get tracking number. Everybody does that.

Now for the office, there are a bunch in US that can process it outland. Think there is one in LA and one in NY, not sure if the NY does PR applications.

You can call CIC and ask them if you wish.

These offices only deal with applications for Temporary Resident Visas, Study Permits or Work Permits, Applications for Travel Documents (Permanent Residents Abroad)

LA surely deals with Sponsorships/PR Applications, there are threads in this forum with people having their case there.

If you are trying to say that LA office does not do PR, please provide a link to support your knowledge.

I did previously... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp

Applicants for Permanent Residence
You must select the visa office that serves your country of nationality or the country where you have been legally admitted for at least one year.

All new Family Class applications must first be mailed to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

In your application, you must select the visa office where your application will be processed. Please consult the chart below to find your visa office.

See link above...I followed the country they require which is the US and in the section Applications for Permanent Resident Visas it states CPP-O then states the following...

Visitor visas: New York or Los Angeles

Study Permits: Los Angeles

Work Permits: New York

Temporary Resident Permits, Rehabilitation and Authority to Return to Canada: New York or Los Angeles.

(Read January 29, 2013 visa office notice.)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/notices/2013-01-29.asp

New permanent resident applications

All new family class applications must first be mailed to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (CPC-M). Applications that have received positive eligibility will be transferred to the visa office now responsible for further processing.

For persons residing in the U.S., applications for Family Members of Protected Persons, Dependent of a Live-in Caregiver, Adoption (Citizenship and Permanent Residence) and One Year Window of Opportunity Provisions should be submitted to the visa office in Los Angeles for processing.

I also used the interactive map http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-map.asp?q=2 stating Family Class then United States which gives me this....

United States of America
Office responsible for processing applications:

Immigrants: CPP-O
Visitors: Los Angeles, New York
Workers: New York
Students: Los Angeles

Temporary Resident Permits, Rehabilitation and Authority to Return to Canada: New York or Los Angeles.

If I am misunderstanding something, because I feel that I have followed the website correctly, but maybe I am wrong please advise, so that next time I can post the correct information....

So, the applicant is required to send it to CPP-O and state this on the form and if CIC decide to if overloaded will push it onto another VISA office?

Yes. If the person is applying via the USA, it will go to CPP-O. If they are overloaded, or if they think the application will take "too much time" then they will send it to an office actually in the USA. I'm not ENTIRELY sure why ours went to LA, but it did. Granted, our application happened when all the Buffalo applications were being shifted everywhere.
