Hi all,

I'm currently filling out the application forms and have a query regarding dependants on the IMM008 form.

I'm a UK citizen, but my wife is Canadian and we have two minor children (so my wife is sponsoring me via the family class spousal sponsorship).

The children have UK passports but our application for their Canadian citizenship is ongoing. As their mother is Canadian, this should be a formality, but my question is, for the purposes of this application, should I include them as dependants while their citizenship application is ongoing?

Many thanks!

**hello, I copied and pasted this after seeing on another thread. Hope it answers your questions :)

if your child is a Canadian citizen....the Canadian citizen child cannot be sponsored or issued a visa and cannot be included in spousal sponsorship as a dependent.......fill the forms and submit the supporting documents as required in the checklist.....your sponsored wife will be the Principal Applicant (PA) in the forms......your Canadian citizen child should not be included in any of the forms except IMM5406.....the PA is required to declare their family members in IMM5406 whether they are Canadian citizen or not Canadiancitizen.......since you the Canadian citizensponsor lives outside Canada you will need to include a proof of intent to live in Canada after the PR visa is issued for the PA......only your wife will be required to do medical exam.....your Canadian citizen child is not a dependent in the application and will not do medical exam.

well said

if approved, the PR visa will have expiration date of the earliest of the PA passport expiration date OR the 1 year anniversary of the medical exam (i.e., if PA did medical in May 10, 2018, 1 year anniversary will be May 10, 2019).

you wouldn't happen to know APPROXIMATELY how much longer after the background? Like a time line or the process?

Hi

Your children are Canadian. You haven't applied for their citizenship; you have applied for their proof of citizenship. They are not dependents.
