Hi all,

I also have a question regarding the generic application form (IMM0008). My national identity document has no expiration date. What should I fill out in this field of the form? leave it blank or should I write something there?

Thanks a lot!!!

actually, the form validated OK keeping the expiry date blank for the identity document...
Should I keep it blank?

IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN LEAVE IT LIKE THAT IS OK, I WOULD HAVE LIKED YOU TO PUT ANY DATE. BUT IF YOU ARE OK WITH IT LIKE THAT, THEN GOOD.

I have simply put "N/A" therein. And then mentioned this feature and the reason in the cover letter.

How was your cover letter, RomanSPb? Do you have a sample that you could share?
Is a cover letter something mandatory? I didn't find this requirement on the instructions.. :(

There is no need for a cover letter, unless there is a problem in your application that needs clarification.

Cover letter is not necessary if everything is quite straightforward and clear in your application forms and supporting documents. If you feel like something might cause unwanted questions or become a subject of verification (e.g. changes in cities names, inconsistencies, overlaps in dates whatsoever), then a cover letter may be used to clarify your situation, provide extra details on certain questions and prevent misunderstanding. It just goes without saying a cover letter is a must if you miss some mandatory documents or fail to provide required information in some forms.

I can share a sample letter that I used, rather old though but still nice:

As a matter of fact Russian national passport becomes invalid upon it's holder reaching a certain age, i.e. 45 years. So, I decided to use it as the expiry date in my case.

Yes, this is also a possible option, considered to be okay too. But as this expiry date is not indicated explicitly, I still decided to put "N/A" and provide explanation in my cover letter. I bet it works either way. Some applicants merely say they do not have any national ID's and this also works:)
