in the process of filling out the forms, my wife is asked in IMM5540, We have a questions about the questions about her father.

Her mother remarried when he biological parents divorced. She remarried and he adopted her. He was a real piece of shit who used his fists on both of them.
The last thing she wants to do is hunt down the prick and ask him his address (well not for PR sponsor aplic anyway!!)
Can it be left blank?

You can just write 'unknown' or n/a.

Alot of people are estranged from their parents/famillies, and so just putting down unknown is fine. You can also write a note on a separate piece of paper briefly explaining why.
