IMM 5490 Sponsored Spouse/Partner Questionnaire

The heading for this section of questions is " FIRST MEETING " So, we would not put any gifts we exchanged during the whole course of our relationship here? They are just asking with regards to first meeting?

This is an outland application for my Japanese wife.

Question 28 on the same IMM 5490 asks, are you currently living with your sponsor? answer is no as she lives in japan now. They ask if no, when did the sponsor return to canada? I have always lived in Canada so I am confused why thats there?? is this the wrong paper?

Sounds to me like you are the sponsor and you are trying to fill out the APPLICANT'S PR application. It's supposed to be completed by the Applicant, or at least from their perspective.

The question is essentially about the "first date" in which you met each other in person. Did you give her any gifts? Did she give you any gifts on your first date? flowers? chocolates? etc.

it's asking about the date when you came back to Canada after your marriage (the question assumes the sponsor traveled to Japan to get married, however, this may not be true. If not true, then write a note explaining the situation).

I also suggest you call CIC call center and ask these questions to them and get confirmation.

Question 28 is related to question 27 where they asked if both of you have lived together. If you did live together when did the sponsor leave. If your spouse is the one who left just explain that on a seperate sheet.

ur first question refers to gifts given at ur first meeting or date; u can say nothing and u put additional note (see page x with a detailed description of the gifts you gave to each other throughout the relationship and there u'll describe the gifts, show photos, receipts, anything u have); note that people in arranged marriage do give lots of gifts in the 1st meeting, i imagine that's why they put that question there, but that's not ur case; also, first meeting could b different than the first date, so really some people genuinely did not get anything

as for ur second question: i think some questions before asks to write down all the times u have lived together; if u did live together when u went to visit her in Japan or when she went to visit u in Canada u should put them all down, even if it's short time, a few weeks; if not, when did u go to visit her last time? if u did the day u came back will be the day u returned to Canada; if it was only her who visited u and u never visited her then explain the whole thing on a separate paper, write the date when she returned to her country and attach that additional answer to this specific question....

The above answers are right - the gift question is only about gifts received at the first meeting. BUT ... definitely list all gifts you have given each other at other times somewhere in the application Maybe in the letter outlining your relationship.

it's ok u don't need to have everything; more does not mean better some people focus on gifts cuz maybe they have less of other proofs, or who knows...it's case by case...if it really bothers u and u think it will improve ur application, then u can update the list of gifts u mentioned, have photos and receipts handy and at some point during the application update them with this info and possibly other

It doesn't matter. The VO will see you just misunderstood the question, and won't think you were lying. Anyway, having given each other gifts is a good thing.

He is currentyly in Emirates, now my question is he dont know what office he's going to submit his spousal application form. There is also a question what visa office requested for process of your application? Why they ask that? I dont know if from abu dhabi canadian embassy because he is currently residing there? Any thoughts?thanks.

All of your papers are submitted together under the Live-in Caregiver Program. You submit everything to Vegreville. You are NOT sponsoring him. He is included as a family member to your application.

yeah, but i don't know why the UAE Canadian Embassy gave him for sponsorship application. I included him in my application for family members, i'm here in Canada and he is in dubai.
