Hello,

I have a little trouble understanding what CIC wants with this document. We have proof of our common law relationship (signed lease, joint bank account).
Do these documents need to be translated and certified as proof? Or is it enough that a notary of public sees the original documents (not in english or french) and then signs the declaration?

This is a compulsory document if you have listed your marital status as common-law. It needs to be filled by the applicant and must be included in the application with all the supporting documents you have selected for the entries 1-4 in the form.

You need to get it attested by a notary. If your supporting documents are not in English or French, then include a copy of the original document and a certified translation copy. When you are submitting your application there will be a separate placeholder to include common-law related documents.
