Search unsuccessful on this. "Additional Family information" is normally filled by the "applicant" who in this case, is my wife. Why should I fill this (I'm the spouse and sponsor), and why should all my wife's children need to fill this (they are already listed in Section B). Something here does not make sense. Thanks for any light on this (it's the last step before mailing...) Mike in Thailand (wants to move back to Canada)

You as the sponsor do not fill the form. It says spouse if applicable, meaning if both of you are applicants. If your wife's children are over 18 they must also fill the form.

You are not included in the app, so you don't need to fill out any of the applicant forms.

From your previous post, one of her daughters was 17 years old in November, which means that she must be included in the app as a dependent. If she is now 18, she must fill out the form herself.

As the older daughter is not a dependent, she is not required to fill out anything.

May I ask a similar (sort of) question:

My Canadian common-law husband is my sponsor, I do not have kids, and he is just sponsoring me. I have a mother and a brother (who has a wife and 2 kids), and 2 grandparents - neither of them are going to be moving to Canada, I am not planning to sponsor them. So, do I need to put them all on the 'Additional Family' form only? As in, my background information, but they are not dependents. Also, if that's the case, does that allow me to potentially sponsor anyone later,or does that mean they'd have to do medicals now? I really am not planning to, but would just like to understand what filling each of the family forms means. In other words, I don't have dependants, but I do have a family back in Europe.

as the applicant, yes you need to fill out that form completely, including your parents and siblings (I don't remember grandparents being on this form). this is what CIC will use to determine FUTURE sponsorship eligibility. it does not suggest they will be applying for pr, it is for information purposes only right now. The only person (people) who need to do the medical are those listed on your application as applying for pr. for spousal sponsorships, usually it's just the spouse being sponsored and/or dependent children. your parents and siblings are not applicants and do not need to do medical.

Ok, thanks!!! It's really good to see this spelled out ;)

so just to recap: I just put all my (close) family on 5406 now, but they don't have to do medicals (because they are not coming with me, nor applying for PR/are not being sponsored), which, however, will not exclude them for applying later (theoretically).

Right. List your spouse, parents, all children, and all siblings on the form. Only the ones included in the application (any dependent children) would have to get a medical (and you, of course). This form does not have anything to do with sponsoring people, really. It is just background information.

Ok great, thanks!! My spouse is my sponsor, so iguess i don't include him, right? And,do i include my sister in law and my little nephew and niece?

You include the family members that it specifically ASKS FOR. It is fairly straightforward.
