IMM 0008 - Question clarification

Hello!

I am trying to Sponsor my Wife, and currently in the process of filling out the forms. There is a question of IMM0008 that I find a bit confusing:

Under "Application Details", Q3 "How many family members, including you, are in this application (see instructions guide)"

The instructions makes very clear that you must indicate all of the applicant family members (including the applicant) whether they are coming or not. Then it provides a link to the glossary where defines this as "closest relatives, in the context of an application to CIC. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children"

Here are my questions:

1- We do not have any children/dependents so that is simple, but what about my wife's parents and siblings? I thought She would have to include them.

2- I am her Husband, am I now part of her family? Should I be included, or this is not necessary as I have a Permanent Residence status in Canada?

Can someone provide the right answer please?

Thank you

1 - No, your wife's parents and siblings are never included when you see the term "family members" mentioned on the forms. Like you said, "family members" only refers to HER immediate family, which is her spouse and children.

2 - You are not included in "family members" because you are already a Canadian resident. The correct answer would be 1.

These forms are used for multiple different immigration streams, not just spousal sponsorship, which is why the forms mention to include your spouse (if applicable). If becoming a PR through another stream, the spouse must be declared so that they can be sponsored at a later date. For a spousal application, this is a non-issue.

Thank you very much for the clarification
