Hi

I am filling the form of IMM 0008, Personal Details Q 12. Wondering about "for more than six months"?

If I lives in a country other than my country, for example, 4 months in the first half year, then fly out of it and then come back to live another 5 months, i.e. totally 9 months in one year.

Does this mean I live in this country "for more than six months"?

Thank you

But we have not lived in this country for more than six months continuously?
The question reads: "During the past five years have you lived in any country other than your country of citizenship or your current country of residence (indicated above) for more than six months?"

It does not read ""During the past five years have you lived in any country other than your country of citizenship or your current country of residence (indicated above) for more than six months in any continuous stretch?"

Since you have lived there over six months, you must answer yes, and give the details it asks for. Not doing so is misrepresentation.

So if my husband came to Canada on 3 separate occasions, but together totaling 6 months or more, we should have said yes to this question?

That does not sound right.. Because he was only visiting, not living, like the question states.

residing and visiting are different. did you husband reside in canada, meaning was it his primary home while he was here? if not, that means he was only visiting. if canada was his primary home, then that is residing. did he maintain a residence in another country while in canada? if he did, that means he was only visiting. if he didn't maintain a permanent address in another country during that time, then he would be living in canada.

you are stressing out about a lot of things that you don't need to be stressing about. your applicaiton is completed and submitted. there's nothing more for you to do until CIC contacts you. If they have questions about his application or whether he lived somewhere, they will ask. stop looking at reasons why your application will be rejected. you don't know how the application is being interpreted by the visa office, so stop making up reasons to freak out. to put things into prospective, my application had mistakes and even questions left blank. i had absolutely no issue with my processing.

My personal take is that - that depends :/ it's a bit of a grey area. CIC have recently changed some of their language, things like police certificates used to only be needed where you had lived somewhere over 6 months, they're now for anywhere you have spent over six months. So I wouldn't put in, for example, every holiday I had to Germany, but if I'd spent over six months there in total as an adult I would be obliged to get a police certificate from there. But if each trip was a holiday, I wouldn't consider it living, so I wouldn't put it as somewhere I'd lived.

But the poster above said they'd lived in another country for just under a year in two sections, so that one's unambiguously a must-list.

Realistically, you know if you've lived somewhere. It typically involves paperwork, a degree of permanence, setting up a home.

Interesting... well his first visit was for 4 months during which we did sublet an apartment in the city, I guess that you be considered living. But the other 2 visits were only about a month each.. I guess we'll see if CIC requests the police checks from Canada.. Hopefully not!

They do their own checks for Canada anyway - you'll probably only be asked for fingerprints and the like if your partner matches a known Canadian criminal, and they need to distinguish between the two of them.

Before we got her PR, the wife visited Canada about 7 times for about 2 weeks at a time. The last visit was for 2 months before we applied. The only thing that CIC requested was a PCC from Canada even though she was only a visitor. So, I believe it all comes down to the individual VO reviewing the application. If they don't ask, don't offer.

Error:
  • Countries or territories of residence - List your current country or territory of residence, then add all other countries or territories where you've lived for the past five years, for more than 6 months.
