Yes, I know I cannot go to Canada to " live" without status, however I am thinking that If we do not hear anything by January, I am going to and use my six months stay...question is..if I do that and let's say I get approval during that time, will it be bad that I am already " visiting" when i obviously applied Outland? Maybe I am in a funk, but I just want to be with my husband and not just visiting every two or 3 weeks here and there.. :'(

You can cross the boarder and potentially be able to say for 6 months whenever you wish! You just have to say you're 'visiting' and not 'moving' there. Also, you shouldn't bring a ton of stuff. My hubby (at the time boyfriend) came up to visit me and stayed for 4 months before leaving, no problem. Every time he has come to visit, he's been let in no problem, without restriction so if he wanted to he could stay for 6 months. I would advise having a return ticket that is able to be cancelled to show that you have intention to leave. After 5 months, you can apply online for another extension, saying you're PR is in process and you want to stay until completion. You can be in Canada when you're approved for your Permanent Residency but unless you change your address your paperwork will be sent to your American address and you'll need to get it forwarded.

No problem. Just know you cannot work, or go to school. You are just a visitor, and make sure you apply for an extension before your 6 months are up so you don't overstay illegally. People give it a month to process so apply after you've stayed for 5 months. Perhaps bring a suitcase or two max. Crossing on a land boarder is also much easier than by air. And make sure you have our PR paperwork proving you've submitted it and are waiting for approval. I'm sure others on the forum can give more info as a lot of Americans have done this before.

thanks for your information, yes i am well aware I will not be able to do anything until I have everything. I am hoping we hear by January. We just started the process and I am sure and have heard it does not take that long usually for outland.

so why don't you go visit now, and apply for an extension while there? if you just started, then the timing should work out perfectly.
