Hello,
I'm going through a complicated situation and would like your help or opinion.

I moved to Toronto in 2017 with the plan to study English and eventually get accepted into a college. During this time, I started dating and moved in with my ex-partner. We decided to get married so both of us could stay together in Canada. My partner started in a College, which allowed me to obtain an Open Work Permit (OWP). At that time, I sponsored my partner student VISA application, proving income from my bank account for a two-year course tuition plus regular expenses
.
Since I had already studied in my home country and had some job prospects in Toronto, we agreed that I would work full time while my partner studies, making it financially feasible to pay the tuition and books for a two years college program, rent, and expenses without pass through some financial difficulty.

We had an agreement that my partner would study first (since my partner didn't have a college diploma or university degree), and then I would finally pursue my dream to get a education in Canada. I would pay for my partner college tuitions, and after the graduation, my partner would start contributing financially so that I could finally achieve my dream of obtaining a Canadian diploma or degree.

After my partner graduated, our relationship became extremely toxic and violent, culminating in my partner physically assaulting me, including an incident where I got strangled while I slept.
My partner never contributed to household expenses, credit card bills, or even a cellphone bill expenses, always finding excuses to avoid any financial responsibilities.
After another assault, I was genuinely frightened and decided to leave my house,. I had no idea, but I was about to turn my life upside down.

On that day, my partner tried to accuse me of assault, but I had already installed cameras in the house because I was afraid something serious might happen to me at night. I even stopped eating at home out of fear of being poisoned.

My partner started to threatened not to pay me back to not reimbursing me for the money I paid for the college program + books if I decide to leave the house. I also got threatened by my partner saying my partner would remove my name from our CIC profile for Express Entry.

In summary, if I tried to avoid contact with my partner via email or phone, but my partner always threaten to remove my name from the PR application, knowing how important this was to me(after I work so hard and spent a lot of money).
After numerous threats and demands from my partner, I got diagnosed with PTSD and began psychological treatment with professionals and medication. This greatly affected my work performance, and I had to disclose my problems to my manager, which was very embarrassing for me.

I know our profile was invited to get an PR through a provincial program in PEI, and my partner began demanding money to keep my name in the application, causing me more anxiety and fear.
My partner hired a paralegal to handle the process. We had two meetings, and he said if I did not want to participate, I should file for divorce.
In the end, I decided to participate. During the second and final meeting, I provided my SIN number, the name of the company I work for, my job title, and even my current address (which I had been trying to keep hidden from my ex). He asked me to leave the call, saying he no longer needed to speak to me. Ten minutes later, my ex called to say they had removed my name from the PR application and would my partner would apply as separated.

In the following months, my partner refused to accept the divorce or respond to me. However, now my partner wants a divorce, perhaps because my partner received the PR card.

In cases like this, does anyone know if I can still get my PR even though we're still legally married?
If I hire a lawyer, is it possible to recover some of the money I lost or take legal action against my partner? My partner works as an ECE. If I go to the police and provide videos and audio recordings of the assaults, could this cause problems for me in a future PR application?

Please, if anyone can help me, would be great!

Thanks

You can certainly apply for PR however you'll have to do it independently.

You cannot get PR through your partner since you are no longer in a relationship.

No one here will be able to tell you if you can recover any of your money. That is a question for a lawyer.

My partner doesn't want to sign the divorce. We are still married.
Any advice?

Just apply my PR by myself and sue my partner?

You will need to apply for PR on your own.

I can't advise you want to do regarding your divorce or whether you will be successful in suing your partner to get your money back. You'll need to speak with a family lawyer.

Another thing, I called CIC and I confirmed that my partner got the PR card.
If I decide to do something legally against my partner, this can affect my PR application too?
I was avoiding to do this because I'm pretty sure my partner will have problems to find a new job after that,

This won't impact your PR application.
