Canada has pet regulations at customs. Your pet needs to look healthy at the time you are crossing the border. You will need to present a valid rabies vaccination certificate that includes an expiration date up to 3 years from the actual vaccine date and also includes a veterinarian's signature. For more details :

Please check websites of:
Canada Boarder Services Agency
regulations about
Food, Plant and Animal Inspections

Also see the regulations from your Airlines by which you will travel to Canada

You can definitely bring your canine family members into Canada. Take a look at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/canine.shtml for the requirements. Also, check with your current country as some require export documentation (you don't want to be stuck at the airport!).

The most complex part may be planning your flights if you want to take your dog with you on the same plane - especially if he's small enough and you want to take your dog in the cabin with you.

Happy to help :) Hope your trip goes well. One more tip - if you haven't traveled much with your dog before, make sure you get him/her used to the carrier before the flight. Start with just a moment and work the time up to at least a few hours. I have a small dog and got him used to his carrier in a week by putting him in it morning and night every day for increasing amounts of time before the trip. As a result,
- He felt very comfortable during the trip and nobody realized he was even on the plane! After we landed, when I was in the immigration line several of my seat mates noticed I was petting him and commented that they had no idea he had been there for the 6 hours we were on the plane.
- He absolutely loves his carrier - to him it means he's going on an adventure - so now when we pull it out even if it's for a short trip he gets suuuper happy!

Also, pick a carrier carefully. I spent several hours on finding one and really like the one I picked - the manufacturer's site is http://www.petego.com/category/26/Carriers/product/206/JetSetBLCarrier but if you look around you can find it much cheaper elsewhere online (I got mine 50% off). What I love about it is that
- You can use it as a duffel bag, shoulder bag, or back pack
- You can open it from both ends: makes putting the dog in very easy
- It has flaps on the sides so you can cover it up so it doesn't scream I'm a dog carrier!!!
- The top and sides are soft so it gave me flexibility to easily put it under the seat in front of me
- It met my airline regulations

And, enjoy the trip. If you get nervous, your dog will too!

Thanks OhCanadiana! I have a feeling that we will enjoy each others company because we have the same passion.....DOGS. My dog is a disabled one. She lost her sight (right eye) when she was a puppy. I hope she can easily adjust to canada's weather too. She is used to humid weather i hope it will not harm her. Thanks for the nice information.

Everyone in Canada who have kept pets in Canada - be it dog or cat, have to give his last name to the pet. Like if the dog's name is Dodo then it would be Dodo ######.

I do like dogs! They sell coats and even shoes for dogs to protect their paws from ice - so if you are worried you can try them out.

You need to call the specific airline to understand (or check their requirements online). It depends on the size of your pets and the countries involved in your journey.

Typically, dogs or cats have to fit under the seat in front of you or be checked as baggage. There is also companies that ship pets across countries (google ship dog) and handle more of the logistics for you.

If you give us more information about your situation, I can try to help more specifically.
