If my wife is pregnant does that increase my chances of getting approved?

Hello,

I am a U.S citizen and I am in Canada as a visitor. My wife is a Canadian Citizen and we just got married here and we are in the middle of filling out the sponsorship documents. We just found out that my wife is 5wks pregnant. Does that increase my chances of getting approved for the spousal sponsorship? Any info will help. Thank you all and Happy Family Day!

First of all ... Congratulations!

I'm sorry but I think the pregnancy will have no influence on your application at all.

It will somehow prevent you from getting Conditional PR. It was one of the laws that was passed last Oct. 2012. If you have a child together, you can not get a Conditional PR if you have child together, been married /common-law for more than 2 years.

I applied for common-law and I might get Conditional PR since I am cohabiting with my partner for 1 year and 6 months, that I must live with my partner for 2 years but that wouldnt be an issue since our relationship is genuine and planning to have a future together for many years...

Goodluck in your application :)

If I'm not mistaken the child clause will not apply to the OP. The child would have to be already born at the time the application was received by CIC.

This is correct. Your status is locked in at application time. This applies to children and length of relationship...

It sure wont hurt the application. A child in common can help show the relationship is legitimate.

It all depends on the VO reviewing your file. 5 wks is still very early, but if you had proof of the pregnancy like a doctors report or blood test, i would definitely include it.
