If I overstayed my visitor's visa by 2 months, will they let me back in?

Hi all,

I'm a US citizen, and my partner is a Canadian citizen. I arrived in Canada on July 15, 2015 and live with him in Calgary. As of October I'm on the lease and everything - I don't have any apartment/home in the U.S. anymore. I originally was going to travel to the US for a few days in the fall, but it was cancelled and now my visitors visa is expired by 3 weeks. I wasn't planning to travel to the states until March 13 or so. Should I be worried about being allowed back in after overstaying only 2 months? I know they don't check on the way out of Canada, but I'm worried about the questions they always ask on the way in and me having to say I basically do live in Calgary, and if they check the dates they'll see I overstayed last time. I guess I can pay to renew my visa for $200 since it's been less than 90 days expired, but do you think it would be ok to just travel in March and not worry about it?

I'm considering applying for PR status and I wouldn't want anything to hinder that.

Coincidentally, if a certain vital record arrives from the states in time, I'm also planning to update my passport, so there's a chance in March I may be travelling with a completely blank new passport and under a different name (got divorced 2 years ago and never updated my passport).

Thanks for your help!

They don't check on exit but they do have a hold on all manifests of people going out, also the USA and Canada share immigration information (of that kind) so your overstay would most likely be in the books.

Yes you can be denied or only allowed a very brief time in Canada (weeks).

Play it safe, apply for restoration. That is the correct way to act.
