If I apply for asylum during my studies in Canada, can I still continue my studies?

Hello,

If I come to Canada with Student Visa status and during my time at the university, I apply to be a refugee, can I still finish my studies at university?

I want to do this so that if my request for asylum gets denied, I finish my studies at the same time and then apply for PR and citizenship through other means of immigration (Express Entry and Province Nomination)

You may be able to continue, but it's more likely they will cancel your SV until your claim is decided. Also be aware that as part of the refugee claim process, you sign a removal order that is held until your claim is approved or rejected. If your claim is rejected, the removal order comes into force. Chances of applying for your PR would be pretty close to nil if the claim is rejected. You would also loose the chance to apply for PGWP.
