Hi,

I am an international student in the US (F1 status) and got my Visitor Visa (V-1) (single entry and has 6 months validity) to see my close relatives in Canada. This visit will be shorter than 30 days. I have some questions related to this trip.

1. I will do my travel by plane from the US. I have information that I should not surrender my I-94 while crossing the border or boarding on plane if my trip was less that 30 days. is that TRUE ?

2. Can I enter Canada earlier than the date that I showed on my visa application ?

3.At the port of entry in Canada, what is the procedure, what documents does the Immigration officer require to enter Canada, and what questions IO asks ?

4. In the future, can I enter Canada with my valid single entry visitor visa after coming back the US ?

Please inform me on my above concerns

Thanks in advance

1. I will do my travel by plane from the US. I have information that I should not surrender my I-94 while crossing the border or boarding on plane if my trip was less that 30 days. is that TRUE ? Does your I-94 say "D/S" for duration of status? If yes, then sure do not surrender I-94 when you exit the US.

2. Can I enter Canada earlier than the date that I showed on my visa application ?Yes, if your visa is valid on the date you intend to enter, which need not be same as your intended date on your visa application.

3.At the port of entry in Canada, what is the procedure, what documents does the Immigration officer require to enter Canada, and what questions IO asks ? They ask you where you live; they will ask you where you go to school and your program of study; also they will ask how long you intend to stay in Canada and when you intend to return to the US. While asking all these questions, they will be looking over your passport to check your visas. Make sure you bring proof that you are studying in the US, original letter of admission from school may help, also school ID.

4. In the future, can I enter Canada with my valid single entry visitor visa after coming back the US ? Not anymore.

Please inform me on my above concerns

Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot for the detailed replies.

I have one more question, should you reply,if possible, I will appreciate.

Do I need return ticket to enter Canada, will the Immigration officer at the port of entry in Canada require to show the return ticket to the US ?

Thanks again

Hi, yes it is a possibility that they may ask to see your return ticket if you told them you will be returning by plane. I suggest you get a return ticket, just to cover all bases.
