Welcome to the process. Doesn't really matter even if you are a PhD, unless or until your first lingo is English there are no other ways to skip IELTS.
Or if they call you for an interview, and check your level of proficiency in English there's no round abouts to prove yourself in front of the officer except a piece of paper stating your scores. It's sucks, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.

Good luck & prepare yourself for the test.

Yes Ozzie is right, even people from English speaking countries are required to give IELTS. There is no other way. If they require IELTS, then you have to provide IELTS
Thanks

Hi Softncool,
You said in your reply to the above-mentioned IETLS issue: "If they require IELTS, then you have to provide IELTS"
By using the conditional sentence starting with the tool "If", Do you mean that there are cases that they do not ask for the ITELS Scores?!
For English Native Speakers IETLS is N/A.
I also got to know from the CIC Site that there are alternative ways to prove English proficiency by submitting documents that proves your proficiency in English other than the IETLS.
Best Regards,
Hammad.

Rav,

Point here is that you need to give IELTS.
I'll suggest that go-ahead and get an appointment for your examination at your nearest examination center.

http://www.ielts.org/default.aspx

Once you get the appointment / date for your examination, start preparing for your examination. Exami is not a big deal and if you think you are comfortable with English, I'm sure that you will get a good score.

Let me know if you need any help in finding out prep material for IELTS.
I think you have to take a "General" IELTS...

Best of Luck

Hi Rav:

Its true you can prove english proficiency by ways other than IELTS but its also true IELTS will give you points for immigration what it reflects on that piece of paper but these other ways will leave you in the hands of Assessing Authorities, and they will give you points what they want.

So its better you go and get registered for IELTS. I think all other friends who have passed IELTS will agree that it is not a big deal to pass IELTS.

Dear Friend,
I have written "IF" bec you have been specifically asked to provide IELTS. Otherwise I also seen people who got VISA without IELTS. Since you have been asked, then you have to provide the IELTS score.
I myself haven't given IELTS score. Bec I am waitting to be asked for. If they ask me then and only then I will give IELTS, otherwise no.
Thanks

Hi rav_234

So if you are versed on English, you have not worry about, it will just a formality for you my friend, actually there is nothing to study other than English language proficiency.

The Test is broken in 4 parts
1- You will listen a CD, then you will be asked to respond several questions about what you are listening, ( this will be piece a cake if you are very versed on listening English comprehension)
2- You will receive a book with some stories or topics, you must read them and you will respond some questions about your reading (reading comprehension)
3- You will be asked to write a topic, using 150 words then another one using 250 words (I don’t remember exactly the quantity of words required for each but it is something like that)
4- You will be interviewed by somebody in English, the interview is based on different common live topics

As you can see; it will not be a big deal for you since you are versed on this language.

Good luck my friend and go for 9 mark.

Rav,

When you say you are planning to take test either this weekend or next weekend, what does it mean ?
I think if you are in US you have to register for the examination and believe me there is a waiting list for this examination and you will end up getting a date after 2 months. So act fast and get your exam date first.

Once you get your examination date, take some sample test first to know where you stand with English. DOn't take this exam lightly. I have friends who are very good in English but on an typical exam day they didn't score properly and got only 6.

So first findout where you stand and then prepare for your weakest area.
There are many sites which offer tips for getting good band score in IELTS.

So don't waste time and don't be over confident. Prepare before you go.
Let me know if you need links to IELTS sites.

Best of Luck

Hi,

Thanks to one and all for the valuable advises given to me regarding the IELTS Exam.Just wanted to let you all know that i gave my exam and was fortunate enought to get a band score of 8 overall inspite of my zero preparation.

Also i have submitted the score to canadian consulate.

Apprecaite if anyone can give me the timeline going forward from here.I've now again got into the wait and watch mode hoping to hear for any feedbacks from the canadian embassy on my file.

In the meanwhile i appreciate any feedback on the further procedure and timelines.

thanks in advance.
