IELTS Victims...

I gave IELTS on 27th April. I was 101% sure that every module was perfect...

I got result on 10th

L:6.5
R:7.5 (rare seen, 36 question answered correctly)
S:6.5
W:5.5 :'(

I am sure that the writing was good enough to get 6.5. I have given IELTS 3 years back and got 7 bands in writing..

To me it feels that, since i chose "immigration" as the purpose of IELTS, for this very reason they are just keeping one part of IELTS scores less than the required. For them it is just business and now is the time to earn money.

I had to reapply for 25th.

Any more victims like me?

Don't get surprised. Applicants will start to find out it will be getting harder than before to get 6.0 on IELTS General Test on writing and speaking. British Council and IDP Education are fully aware the recent changes on Canada FSW language policy which gives them a big incentive to raise their test evaluation standard.

Yes I know.. Also this is ridiculous that the inquiry on results takes 8 weeks at least. I don't know in which age they are living. Even if they have to get the exams rechecked from UK they can send the scanned copies of the exam and get the results via email. It will not take more than 1 week. Then why 8-10 weeks.

They are just trying to harass people and making money.

If i was so bad in writing then there is no possibility that I would get 6.5 in speaking.

How do you base your above comment simply on the results of your exam?

By the way, their was no reason why you had to specify "immigration" as purpose of IELTS. Do you really think someone at the IELTS "marking office "was there that made a conscious decision to give you 5.5 on writing ......simply because you specified your purpose as "immigration" ?

Sure, it's quite possible you got a better score than 5.5, maybe there was an error in your marking.......but is it really possible you you got 5.5 because you specified "immigration" as purpose?

Also, you do have the option of getting a remark.....sure it will probably take longer than just doing over the exam, but if you are that sure about your Writing results I think a remark will more than justify what you are saying.

Thanks for the links.

Well it has happened with others also in my relation on this date. Also I joined a coaching center yesterday and when I told them about my scored they directly told me that do not fill immigration as the purpose because it is being noticed now after FSWP IELTS conditions reveal.

If what you are suggesting is something that is being done locally in your country, maybe what you (and the other "victims") could also do is report this directly to the IELTS international office, maybe they could open an official investigation into this.

Yes, definitely I am going to do that but right now my first concern is to fill the FSWP application. For which I need IELTS 6 bands asap. I won't spare them afterwards. I am gonna fill inquiry also tomorrow.

Even I have experienced the same, was expecting bit higher but it has totally ruined my application chances as the only option for me is to make my wife to write exam.
I scored 8 in Speaking
6.5 in writing
6 in reading
6 listening

As per me in listening I knew its going to be low as I missed some of the answers due to distraction. But writing I think its really scary to see my score.
I think working professionals write at one official mail per day, and with this experience if we score less its really scary.
I had taken IELTS in the year 2008 for higher studies during that time I had scored 8 over all and 7.5 on an average in all.
Earlier I thought am the only one but many have had similar experience, its really bad on examiners.

I think there is some thing wrong with their evaluation system and as far as the score go for writing , i have appeared IELTS 3 times in my life scored 6,6, 6.5 so not less than 6 each time i found reading was difficult bit anyways wht i meant is writing the least you could get is 6 unless they dont wnat to give your.. advice enroll for next batch , BTW what is your occupation code as the 1112 and the software engineer quotas are running out faster i guess.

I scored 7 in writing 3 years back and since then I have gained too much experience in English. I have clients from Sweden and US. So there is no way that it will decline in quality. I don't know whats happening.

Ok if your from the below occupation code, I think your will be very late for this years quota.

2174 Computer programmers and interactive media developers
1112 Financial and investment analysts
2147 Computer engineers (except software engineers/designers)

You can decide weither you want to write IELTS now or wait untill next. year........ i doubt the if the above categories will be still open till you get your new score. Goodluck
