your spoken english can only be improved by speaking.
practice it by standing in front of the mirror.
if u r working , speak in english with your office mates.
or with your family members. I am sure this will help and u will also gain your confidence.

Think in English, dream in English, start to make English your first language.

This is how I have been coaching my Mexican friend, her first test she scored a terrible 4.5 over all and that was after spending 100's on an online so called IELTS tutor.

Anyway, to improve her spoken English, I request her to read a small page of a book at night and then she has to repeat this to me from memory every day. Not only does she use the language but she has to think the language by memorizing the page.

In 2 months her English speech has improved dramatically and of course her reading skills have also improved. Also, because she is learning to think in English, both her listening and writing skills are improving as well, although we do need more work on her writing at this time.

Hope this will help you.

Hi everybody, I am planning to apply for the Federal Skill Worker Programme as well. I have been going through the forms, reading the webpages and now joined this site in order to get as much information as possible from those who are in the process or have done it already.

But some how I am a bit intrigued as I read you guys talking about the IELTS exam, I got the impression by reading the forms that you have two choices: one you either submit a test exam or or provide documentation supporting to ability to properly communicate in English or French which tell me that I dont HAVE to take an exam,

Am I right, does any body have any clue of what I am talking about? have you read those closes in the forms?

Please reply,

Thanks

yup, but u have to proof ur english capibilities or submit IELTS . IELTS is preferred so its better to submit IELTS rather then trying to proof ur english skills

Hi UP492,

Yes, there are two options. However, if you read
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2010/2010-03-10.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2010/2010-06-26.asp

it is clear that IELTS is now mandated. However, the word COMPULSORY or MANDATORY is not used in the instruction set.

Hence it would be advisable to send your IELTS score, else you would have to bank on you written explanation, which can fetch you maximum of 8points only and again, it depends on the Visa Officer who reviews the case. There is no standardized way to review an written application, IELTS give you and the visa officer a better clarity about your language proficiency.

Register soon for July 17, 2010 : IELTS exam : Dont lose time in doing so. Consider British Council or Any registered testing center for IELTS in your country.
