IEC Working Holiday Granted - Question about documents required on arrival...

Hi,

This month I've been granted a year's working holiday visa for 12 months.

When I arrive, I know I have to bring certain documents (letter granting visa, bank statement showing i have funds/flight home etc).

It did mention I had to provide the document's I submitted as part of my online application, mainly my UK passport and UK driving licence.

My driving licence expires this year (expiry date is after I intend to arrive in Canada) so I was looking at renewing my licence before I leave the UK.

Mainly, it'll be a new licence with an updated picture but obviously my details will be the same although it will differ from the licence I submitted as ID with my application.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You are fine - they will not check your drivers licence as you will have your passport with you.

They will ask for your passport, your approval letter and possibly proof of funds and insurance. It is rare that they even ask for all of that.

Magic, thanks for the speedy reply.

Another quick query ;)

I'm planning on arriving end of July this year. My visa is for 12 months so this would take me up to July 2018.

I believe UK citizens are allowed up to 24 months with the working holiday scheme so say I want to extend my visa for a further year once I'm in Canada, I take it's a case of applying online, similar to what I have already done?

My passport will expire in November 2019 - would this cause any issue if I was to extend my visa to July 2019 (when my passport expires 4 months later)? Is there a buffer of x months they require my passport to be valid for? All the things I've read only advise passport should be valid for the duration of the visa (which this would be, provided I arrive in July)

Yep - you apply for a second one year permit. No problem with the passport expiry as you cover the entire time of your permit.

Generally it is advisable that you have a six month buffer on any travel incase your plans change but that is not a requirement for the permit.

UK participants get an IEC for 24 months so how is it you have one for only 12 months. Are you confusing the time you have to arrive in Canada by which is 12 months from the issue date.?

It is a one time thing and UK participants cannot apply to either extend or apply for a new IEC.

Oh good catch Bs65 - they used to be able to do two twelve month permits. Not it is one 24 month permit.

Mcneil, your current approval should be for 24 months.
