IEC/WHP expiring - implied status???

Hey All,

Seems I'm not alone in having issues with the new IEC - working holiday permit application process via the CIC website.
I am currently in Canada on a WHP which expires on June 3rd 2013. I started the process to apply for a new one back in mid-March, received the conditional letter of acceptance on April 8th. As I am living in Canada, the 'eligibility' questionaire wouldn't allow me to get to the WHP section. I called CIC and was advised that as I am in Canada, I must declare it and complete a work permit application. It didn't seem right to me but I did it anyway and submitted the app to 'extend my stay or change my work permit' on April 16th.
I have not heard anything from them since them and as the expiry date of my current visa is fast approaching, I've been trying to contact the CIC, as well as the embassy in Sydney, and have not been able to get any answers.
I came across this forum and found the thread advising that I actually needed to declare my residence in Australia to be able to complete the right WHP application. So I did that this morning, submitted it and sent an email to CIC asking for Urgent processing.

So now I need to figure out how to stay in the country (and tell my boss that I can't work for who knows how long). I've read to that if I apply to stay as a visitor, I would have implied status until a decision is reached, or more preferably until my new permit is approved.

My question is, since I have already mistakenly applied to extend my stay/change my permit (and paid the extra $100 or so bucks to do so), do I already have implied status? Or do I need to apply just for a visitor status? Can I do this at the border or is it best done online?

Any insight would be appreciated, I'm just so frustrated and stressed by this new process. And the fact that it is almost impossible to get a hold of anyone who can tell you what the real deal is.

Thanks so much!

1. The IEC is not extendible, so there is no implied status. You have to stop work on the 3rd, and should apply for an extension as a visitor. On line or border, your choice. At the border you take the chance of being refused entry.
2. You application for change of permit has no bearing, as you applied for something that can't be issued.
3. So you have to wait for the LOI for the new IEC, then go to the border, with proof of insurance and the $2K in funds to get your new work permit.

Hi Aussiegal, Just interested to know how your situation progressed. I'm now in the same situation have received my conditional acceptance letter today and finding out that I need a job offer and LOC and basically have to apply for another visa using the new CIC process. Sad thing is that the clinic where I've been working for the past 2 years has decided to close and we all loose our jobs September 6. A month before my visa expires... GREAT timing and finding out about this CIC process today....
