Hi guys,

I've been working full time in Ontario the past 18 months on an IEC visa but unfortunately my job category is noc category C, so I don't quality for express entry. I'm wondering would I be eligible to apply for a standard open work permit and how long does the process generally take?

Thanks.

Most work permits are closed. It is usually the spouse who qualifies for an OWP. That's why. programs like IEC are so popular. You don't qualify for an OWP. You would have to find an employer willing to do an LMIA and then apply for a closed work permit.

Agreed with the above. You don't meet the requirements to apply for an OWP.

Thanks for the responses guys. Can you shed some light on the likelihood of an LMIA from a category C job being accepted? I would imagine it's difficult to prove there are no Canadian residents who fit my role (noc 6521:travel consultant).

Also open to any other suggestions that would allow me to stay and work in Ontario! Cheers.

Yes - probably very difficult to obtain an LMIA for a NOC C role. If your employer wants to try, it's a 4-6 month process.

Only other option I can see is if you qualify for another IEC. Sometimes you can get two depending on what country you're from.
