Hi all, really stuck for information so resulting to the forums of the net.

Ok, here goes.
Next month I will be travelling to Canada with my partner and have some concerns regarding the required comprehensive health care cover (including repatriation, medical and hospitilisation costs).
I have been reading and researching through the internet for weeks now and am still struggling to find the answers that i require. Even having read through the numerous forums available the confusion is building even further instead of easing.

Firstly, I am a British citizen currently on a working holiday visa in Australia and shall be entering from over here, not the UK. My visa has been accepted and I have the privilege of being allowed up to 2 years in Canada. I am under the impression that I have to purchase health cover for the duration of my intended stay there, so If i purchase 1 year cover i get 1 year visa, if i purchase 2 years cover i get a 2 year visa. I don't have a length of stay in mind so was wondering If i purchase health cover for 1 year and get a 1 year visa, could this be extended should i choose to stay longer or am i restricted to the 1 year visa. It looks as though i can't but again, finding definitive answers is hard with the mine field web.
Would it be best to purchase the cover from a Canadian company, or from a British / Australian company? I don't plan on returning to Australia so figured that the latter not the best option.
I don't plan on spending time in the ski fields but this isn't to say that I wont, i have a tendency of being quite impulsive at times, would I have to add this on to health cover or am I covered by the ski fields? In NZ, by purchasing a pass onto the ski fields you are covered for accidents by the Ski field operator. I do plan on playing some hockey whilst over there though

Secondly, Do you have any advice on companies to go with to help my mind as there are so many insurers that it's s hard to choose one. Having to initially pay many thousands of dollars I want to make sure that I have good coverage. Also, if you know of any good companies do you know if it is possible to purchase cover with a debit plan, or does the full price have to be paid upfront.

Lastly, and this is lastly. I intend on returning back to Europe, quite soon after arriving in Canada to go and see my family, I haven't seen them in many years now as have been away travelling. It seems as though some insurance companies wont allow a trip home which seems very odd to me. Will this in any way effect my visa, or cause any problems with initial entry / re-entry into Canada? We are flying into Vancouver but upon return would be flying into Montreal as i really want to see the French Canadian side.

Thanks for taking time to read this essay which is covered in questions.

All help and advice is so greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

I'll help with one question. There's no coverage with ski tickets. It's just a lift ticket - nothing more.
