Hi All,

I am writing to inquire about the possibility of applying for an open work permit while holding an ICT visa. I am interested in exploring other employment opportunities in Canada, but I am not sure if I can do so legally. Could you please advise me on the following questions:

- Can I hold two work permits at the same time, one for ICT and one for open work?
- What is the procedure to apply for an open work permit as an ICT holder?
- What should I mention as my status on the application form? Should I indicate that I am still employed by my current company or that I intend to resign?
- If I receive an open work permit, do I need to resign from my current company immediately ?

I appreciate your guidance and assistance on this matter. Thank you for your time and attention.

On what basis are you applying for an open work permit? Open work permits are only available in specific circumstances.

You are not eligible for an open work permit except under certain circumstances. If you want to explore other jobs then you need a LMIA and then apply for a closed work permit.

My project is getting over and no other projects are available, so Company is asking to go back to home country.

You aren't eligible for an open work permit based on this.

If you want to continue working, you need to find another employer willing to file for a LMIA proving no Canadian or PR can do the job. Then with LMIA you apply for a closed work permit.
