Hello, All,

Thanks for paying your attention on this post.

I have an emergency question wants to be answered.

I graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution with two years of full-time in 2010.

After graduation, I was working as a chef in Toronto only half year, and then, I opened my own restaurant as a chef, applied for immigration under Canadian Experience Class. I uesd a authorized representative on my behalf.

My application was assessed based on the occupations which I identified as part of my skilled work experience in Canada. However, my periods of self-employment can't be included in calculating the period of work experinece. I got refused! I am so angry , because my representative did not even know about that basis requirement!!! How can I do now?

My work permit will be expired in 5months in Augst. How can I apply for my work permit extension?

Any answers would be appreciated!!! Thanks a lot !!!

as self employed you might want to apply for immigration using the following process specifically for self-employed people:

This only works for farmers, athletes or artists/entertainers or those who will make a significant cultural benefit to Canada.

What does that mean?
Please tell me more!
No, ignore that advice, you can't apply under CEC as either a foreign worker or post grad, because you don't have the qualifying work experience (2 years or 1 year respectively). Shame on your "representative."

Here's the good news - "Chef" is one of the occupations on the current list of occupations eligible under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Note that that may change July 1. As far as I know, self-employed is not disqualified in the FSW program.

The only "problem" I can see is getting a new work permit... I don't think self-employed can get a work permit, anyone else know?

yeah sorry plz ignore my post i answered without checking first but to get through CEC as post-graduate you must meet these minimum requirements to apply for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class. You have to:
-As a graduate of a Canadian post-secondary educational institution, you must have one year of full-time (or equivalent) work experience in Canada after graduation. Your work experience must be gained within two years of applying.
When they started CEC rhere was no work experience requirements, only education and language. I thought it be the same now
retrieved from:: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/graduates.asp
sorry again
