No reason why you cannot apply for a US visa as will be upto to the US whether they grant one or not and whether you have a TRV, work permit or not for Canada only part of the assessment along with your nationality. Even if a US visa is granted doesn’t guarantee entry to the US, that will depend on your status at the time you try to enter and ability to renter Canada.

Thank you so much. I got my Us visa they considered my Wp approval letter for visa. I have one more question.

Now I have Us visa but however I dont have my TRV extn. my old wp was expired on 9th and so as my TRV. I want to travel this week. I read on few blogs between US and Canada u can travel w/o TRV. Can you please confirm so I can make my plans. as of now I only have old expired Wp and new wp approval letter. Will I be able to enter back in canada on basis of this.

Thank you in advance for your help...

Yes, you can. Make sure you can prove that your work permit extension was applied for and approved.

Expired temporary resident visa

  • You can request to return to Canada on your original temporary resident visa, even if it is expired, if:
    • you will only visit the U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon; and
    • you will return to Canada before the end of your approved stay in Canada.
An officer will confirm whether you meet all the requirements before allowing you to come back to Canada. If you visit any country other than those listed above, you will need a new temporary resident visa.
