Hi everybody!,

I really need your entry before I reapply for TRV second time. My heart is all broken.

I am a Mexican single female 43 yo with no children and my boyfriend is Canadian citizen, 40 -he was born in Montréal. He's living in B.C. for the past 15 years.

We've been bf and gf for one year and we are trying to spend vacation time together. December last year after a 12 hours trip to Vancouver I got stuck at the customs and was not allowed to enter to Canada. Spent one night there because the snow. Felt all miserable and cried like a baby. Next day was sent back to Mexico… I have to admit that I was so naive and didn't bring with me any relevant documents. I was devastated so my bf and both really mad as you can imagine. My bf got a phone call from the customs officer because he didn't believe my bf was there at the airport to pick me up. After my bf tried to contact him and called around 25 times!!! At the end, they tried "to put words in my mouth"... The officer was insisting: but you love your boyfriend so you want to move to Canada in the future! I said: no, he is the one who maybe is moving to Mexico someday! I was saying the truth. Before I left I was told many times: it doesn't mean you are not welcome to come back here anymore. You can try but next time bring with you all documentation...

My bf came to Mexico for Easter and it was magic. We are so in love. Of course not problem at all. Then he asked me to try again. Last summer I got all my documents with me to prove "everything" and after one hour freaking out, got stuck at the customs again and the officer checking all then I was allowed to enter to Canada and "enjoy my stay"... It was just GREAT. I was so lucky… One week after a friend told me about the bad news: Mexicans now we are required for a visa in order to visit Canada.

I came back to Mexico for work. I am a teacher. About my application I included the forms, a letter from the school with all requirements, payroll receipts, bank statements, pictures of my bf and I in Mexico and Canada, list of emails, copy of his birth certificate, his payroll receipts, a letter from his employer, a letter from my bf inviting me… But last Tuesday I got the heartbreaking news that my visa was refused because 2 reasons:

1) Length of proposed stay in Canada and/or purpose of your visit.
2) Limited employment prospects in your country of residence and/or current employment.

I've been crying my eyes out. I read here about some posts and it seems that visits to boyfriends and girlfriends from countries required for a TRV are not allowed.

I don't know what to do. I'm pretty lost about this. Don’t want to screw up and waste more money. How can I change substantially my situation? That’s absurd. My bf thinks I have to reapply right away but read here by Suin that maybe this is not a good idea.

My questions are:
1) I didn’t get a stamp of visa refusal on my passport. Is that good?
2) What do they mean about “limited employment prospects….” Is it because I was unemployed sometime? Here in Mexico is a real issue. I cannot change the past.

It would be good to write a letter to clarify and explain reasons about the purpose of my visit? Being bf and gf is not valid? I’m not sure it affected that I applied for a multiple entry visa because was planning to go in the summer as I did this year. Should I explain this and now reapply for a single entry visa instead?

Do I have to expose our relationship and explain the only way we have to be together is on vacation time which is all true?

I feel so miserable… What can I do? How people you never even seen their faces are making decisions about your life and happiness… I know this is not the first time it’s been said… but… Please… They are like judges. I feel I am in a trial. How can I convince them? This is draining. By the way they removed all my bf documents and just the letter from my employer.

Sorry for this long letter. Thanks for your patience. God bless you everybody and my heart is with you all going through this predicament and dissapointment,

Esperanza.

It is a bit draining and it probably feels like the end of the world. Don't worry... Gather your thoughts and get back on it and re-apply... This time have all your required documents ready.. I was, almost, in the same shoes as you are. My fiancée is Filipino citizen and I'm Canadian. We've been together for three years and have traveled in some parts of Asia (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, & Hong Kong). I proposed to her a few months back and have decided to introduce her to the rest of my family in Canada... I prepared a VERY DETAILED package for her TRV application. After a few weeks of putting them together..had the package picked up by their designated courier and taken to the Canadian Embassy in Manila. Two weeks later...she got a Multiple Entry Visa!

Now, I'm not saying this to you to gloat...I'm saying this to you so that you can bounce back and gather your thoughts and re apply again... My suggestion is for you and your bf to travel to other countries where you won't need a visa or it's easy to get a visa...I'm not sure what countries those are with Mexico's laws...however, I'm sure some Latin American countries are possible. The reason why I say this is because they need to see a travel history from you. A pattern in which you travel with your bf or common law partner and come back. Might it be 2 days or 3 weeks... as long as it shows in your passport that you did come back.. Your work history is also a plus... A certified letter from your employer stating that you are going on a vacation leave for a few days/weeks or months... (not exceeding 6 months)..have him/her put down your position, salary, duration of employment and that your employer will expect you to come back on the said date... then... GET THIS NOTARIZED! Credibility increases when the law is involved... Make this document legit..

I know that you feel judged... trust me ... I know what you're going through... but what these immigration folks are doing are just reading as it is... they're not love doctors and will immediately know how in love you are with your Canadian bf...they are seeing what they are seeing from your docs that you are giving to them... Once again...THEY NEED TO BE SATISFIED THAT YOU ARE RETURNING TO MEXICO... "But I love my bf?"...you say? "So what!" ..they say... It is not good to them to know that you will be staying in Canada to get married and live with him.. Why is it not good? Because it is not the proper route to take to gain residency status... You have to follow the steps...

Have his invite letter notarized and get his income tax return and pay stubs... No duplicates... originals... don't worry... they will return it to you...

When they talk about your employment.. it simply means that you are not stable with your job yet and that you will be out there in North America looking for employment...illegally.. Yes, it does sound that they are judging you... thats because they are... It's not in their job description but it sure feels like it... You can't do anything about it but to be organized and focused on what you want.. Do it again.. Don't loose hope.. I may have gotten a TRV for my fiancée in a one shot deal, but both her and I made all the docs organized and in order... and I was HONEST... I'm not saying you are not...but, if in the back of your mind, you feel that you want to go out there and live with him and get a job and start a new life..good.... but not this way... they will smell a "white lie" a mile away.. Just put in your head that you're only going out there for a a couple of weeks and then heading back to Mexico.. In any event, if you are granted a TRV, they will most likely give you 1 year for it and then option to renew.. then maybe get married somewhere in Canada or Mexico... you have gained their trust by this time.

Love is not in their books most of the time.. I'm sure you are both in love.. Rest assured only 1% of the immigration officers will see that... Make your requests legit and in order..

Hope this helps... Good luck to both of you and congratulations on being in love..

hello
what I meant is that it's quite a slim chance to get a visitor's visa if they are aware of your relationship, but slim chance doesn't mean that it's no chance. I never said do not apply again. there's always a chance that your visa can be approved. in our case it was exactly the same - they refused giving me visitor's visa twice, but we didn't give up and after gathering as much proof as possible we got our visa approved! so never give up, always be optimistic. just get as much papers collected as possible and try again.
have a good luck!

Dear Suin,

Thanks a lot for your help! Now I'm trying as Lucas said: to gather my thoughts and getting focused about what to do. Have to confess right now my head is spinning. My heart is just freaking out and I know stressing tons it doesn't help at all.

If you don't mind, I have questions for you:

  • Where can I find the post about your case? I am very interested about your story.
  • Did you always get a stamp on the passport when a TRV is refused?
  • Did you hire an immigration lawyer? Is this too expensive? How much about it can be? Someone you recommend?
  • I applied for a multiple-entry visa... Would you recommend to apply for a single entry visa instead?

Sorry for asking too many questions.

Thanks so much in advance and warm thoughts,
Esperanza

As long as he showed enough "ties" in the Philippines he should be okay. Usually within 6 weeks for a visitor visa application in Manila when they send the passport back.

It doesn't take six (6) weeks for a TRV to get a decision from...well, atleast in Manila it isn't. Here was my process... I got my stuff in order..called the number to schedule a courier pick up ..in the Philippines it's usually AIR 21... You'll find the number on the website of the Canadian Embassy in the PHilippines:

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/philippines/offices-bureaux/embassy-ambassade.aspx?lang=eng#n1

They pick it up the next day..not unless it's a holiday or a weekend...nevertheless..it's picked up the next business day..

The form that I had to fill out was also online. Go to:

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/philippines/visas/visiting-visiter.aspx?lang=eng#n2

The site has most information.. By the way there is a hotline you can call for any questions and is really very helpful...but this cost something per minute...I think 30 pesos or something... worth a try... check out the site as well..

Once it was picked up... I literally waited and held my breath for a total of 2 weeks... 10 business days...14 whole days... when the same courier came back with my package without the application, but with the rest of my documents and with the stamped passport or more like labeled passport that had the multiple entry visa! On the website, it said that it will take 10 to 15 business days..either decision.... well, they got that right..

Tell your bf to get all documents organized and stray away from any "lies" that the immigration dudes might smell... Once they judge you...there's no stopping there...

Good luck..

If he has a stable job in a reputable company, I think he is okay. Would help if he has done some travels in the past. There's nothing much you can do about that now. Relax and pray. It helps.

hello, Esperanza,
yes, they always stamped my passport when denied visa - just a small stamp on the last page of my passport for each denied visitor's visa application.
no, we didn't hire any lawyer - to be honest we do not trust them - they mostly interested only in money.
all visitor's visa applications we did were a single entry visa, as it was 1st time we applied for visitor's visa, and they never issue multiple entry visa to the 1st time applicants. I'm almost sure that they are more willing to give a single entry visa than a multiple entry one.
But I really do not know what to advise you in this condition.
Our case was simple - we just wanted to come to Canada to meet close relatives before marriage ceremony, but were refused twice in a row, so we got married in the US, filed the sponsorship and in a few months tried it again and were successful.
Have a good luck!

18 months old Daughter refused TRV

My wife and I together with our eldest daughter and son were PR holders excecpt for the youngest 18 month old daughter who was born outside Canada. We are going back to re establish after almost 2 years outside Canada. We applied for TRV for our youngest daughter as per the Canadian Embassy's instructions. We have provided our resignation from our current job and all the documents necessary but but was denied because it indicates that the visa officer was not satisfied that our daughter will leave Canada on the allowed time??? They are the one who instructed us TRV then upon arrival at CAnada we can start the process of applying for her PR. We are booked December to return to CAnada hoping that our youngest will have her TRV. Now we tried to appeal the case but for sure, we will go for a walk in application to be able to process the TRV the same day.
