Hi all:

I submitted my application last week, what is next?

I can do nothing until I receive the file number, right? With the file number I can track online, right?

BTW, I am in Montreal, many people told me that Montreal was the slowest in Canada....

You can use the file number in the back of the PR card. It's a 8 digit number xxxx-xxxx. It will take a while to update online. Some members here report at least 45 days after the application is received in Sydney.

Thanks Ray.

You mean that no or client ID is the one use to track my application status? CIC will mail me a new number then? Or, it will just let me use the client ID?

If you use the 8 digit from the PR card, in the Identification Type drop down, select Client ID number.

When you get an AOR from CIC, it would include the same Client ID number, you can continue to use it.

this number is your unique CIC client number, which will always be used for whatever interaction between you and CIC and will never change

The Client ID is the 8-digit number on the front side of your PR card, or any other immigration documents (including study permits, etc.). The format is: 1234-1234. Read more at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=012&t=4.
