I requested to withdraw my study permit application, how long will it take to get confirmation?

My family had financial issues and were unable to pay my tuition in winter 2023, I was informed by my parents and the responsibility was sprung on me to pay it in the middle of my semester and I tried making payment arrangements with my university but they refused. I spent the rest of 2023 working and saving to pay what I owe and have enough to cover my last semester of my degree.
Fast forward to earlier this year when my permit was about to expire and I hadnt Yet completed My fees and couldn’t get a letter of enrolment for an extension. I made a terrible decision to alter the last enrolment letter to seem like I was enrolled in school and submitted that with my application. After about 3 weeks thinking about it and the guilt and anxiety was chewing at me I made a request to withdraw my application. In my request I admitted I made a mistake and regretted my horrible decision and wouldn’t want it to affect my opportunity to be a professional in my field in Canada.
I was able to complete my fees and get a letter of enrolment showing I am enrolled in classes for Fall 2024 and submitted a fresh application.
I am worried as the last mail I received from IRCC says the request has been forwarded to the office responsible and they will determine if it can be withdrawn. That was 3 weeks ago and I haven’t heard anything since. Will that affect my new/future application? How long will it take before I get confirmation it’s been withdrawn?

Your situation is complex and I doubt anyone of us here can tell you how long things might take. There are also a lot of details missing in your post which make your true situation unclear.

Did you take an official leave of absence in 2023 or was this a scheduled break in your program (the period of time when you were working)? Depending on the answer, you may have lost your status in Canada before you submitted the study permit extension earlier this year.

I assume it was an extension you submitted earlier this year and that you submitted it before the date of the expiry of your study permit. If you were still in status at the time you submitted that extension, withdrawing the extension will put you out of status in Canada.

I assume you plan to submit a new study permit application (not an extension). This may not be enough and you may also need to restore your status. I think you are likely too late to get an approval for the fall term.

Overall, you need to provide a much clearer chronology:

- when did you stop attending school
- did you get an official leave of absence from your school
- have you been working since you stopped attending school
- have you attended school at all since you stopped?
- what was your study permit expiry date
- assuming you submitted an extension earlier this year, when did you submit it?
- did you submit anything else like applying to change your status to visitor

- when did you stop attending school
I stopped attending school after I completed the winter 2023 semester. Meaning I didn’t attend fall23/winter24
- did you get an official leave of absence from your school.
No I didn’t, I still owed tuition at the time and the only thing I did was to request payment arrangements which was denied.
- have you been working since you stopped attending school
Yes I was working to save up to pay my tuition owing and save up to pay for the last semester
- have you attended school at all since you stopped?
No, I am enrolled in Fall semester which is supposed to be my last.
- what was your study permit expiry date
April 30, fall 2023 was supposed to be my last however my university usually adds an extra semester to the enrolment letter in case you do not pass all required courses.
- assuming you submitted an extension earlier this year, when did you submit it?
I submitted the extension on the last day my permit was valid. I submitted a subsequent application in early July
- did you submit anything else like applying to change your status to visitor
No I didn’t. I had no idea I could have done this then.

There is a good chance your study permit had been canceled earlier since the school would have reported that you are no longer attending school.

You have also been working illegally since you stopped attending school. You were not allowed to continue working once you dropped out of school.

Your situation is quite complicated and you may have challenges being able to fix your status from within Canada. I would recommend speaking with a lawyer at this point.

I did speak to a lawyer and the only thing they could recommend is to apply through spousal/common law class as my partner is a citizen born and raised. How would I know if my permit was cancelled? It doesn’t make sense that it would be without the school or IRCC notifying me.

They don't notify you when it's canceled.

Hi! Good morning, I'm one of the applicant for PR . We didn't recognized last January , 2024 that the immigration send me email regarding my biometrics, additional documents they are asking and about my medical. I only read it last July, 2024. Because of that our representative decided to send a webform and we are waiting for response within 28 working days. You think the immigration will grant our request for extension of my visa processing even though my application is already one year today August 5, 2024?
