What are the restrictions for staying longer in Canada if you have a petty misdemeanor? I'm from United States, I have been in Canada for a few months now and I would like to say in Canada longer then the 6 months given to US citizens and I don't know the correct way to go about this because I have petty misdemeanor.

What should I do and what information should I have so that I can improve my chances on getting an extension on my stay ?
Also I'm currently saying in Quebec does that change anything ? I eventually would like to say here permanently, though I'm taking it one step at a time. What steps should I take ??

If they allowed you across the border knowing you had that 'record' then it shouldn't be an issue for you to 'extend' your visitors 'visa' for another 6 months.

I need to extend my visa even though I'm from a visa exempt country. Because"Country: United States citizens and permanent residents
You do not need a visa to visit or transit in Canada if you are a United States citizen or a person lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who is in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence." states that I don't.
Its a bit confusing for me.
So would I just have to undergo the same process as people from other counties and use the link posted by scylla or is there another process for US citizens

You follow the same process. There is no separate process for those who are visa exempt. There is one process for everyone.
