Hi,

I am planning to visit one of my friends in Waterloo, Canada (doing MSc at the university of Waterloo) in the month of May. I am a fully funded PhD student in a UK University but I don't have any family bond here in the UK. People are saying that it is hard to get visa without any family bond in your country of resident. As I am fully funded and I get paid every month, so I can show PhD as my job. I will attach my payslip and holiday letter with the application. I have booked hotel in Canada for 10 days (my intended visit duration) but I can see on the visa checklist that they want a travel document as well. Do I definitely have to buy ticket before I apply for visa? Seeking advice regarding my overall situation to make my visa application strong.

Thanks in advance.. :)

Regards

You don't have to buy the tickets now. Just cover off every form and document REQUIRED on the checklist. Bank statements, credit card statements, bank letter, rent letter, etc. (Anything to help show your strong tie to your home country, as well as your ability to support yourself during the trip).

I hope that helps :)
