... but how frustrating is to wait for 9 (or 18) months to start working?

My spouse is working 2 jobs to support us. Wouldn´t be easy (and even better and more confortable for the sponsor, a canadian citizen, who they care about) if the canadian immigration granted a OWP as soon as you´re married? One day it will expire anyway...

Well... just complaining a little bit. It´s really frustrating not to be productive.

Well this is the thing with inland, you REALLY need to know if it suits your particular situation. You are just now getting started as I can see and believe me, the wait doesn't get easier. You still have a chance to withdraw your inland one and start an outland procedure. Hang tight and try to communicate in the inland threads, they are in the same situation and they can help you through this. With time, you just learn to manage. But as I mentioned, now I don't know your whole situation but if it is straight forward, you could send it outland. There is still time. Try and stay strong, you can make it. It is a long road but I promise it is worth waiting on and there is a light at the end of it.

And no it wouldn't be good to give out OWP's just because your married. You need to meet certain requirements to apply in the first place and that would somewhat defeat it, don't you think? Not to mention, as much as it hurts not to work, we are all given the choice which way we want to apply and also it isn't up to Canada to help pick us up off our feet. Now I do wish we could get the OWP's at least a few months into the process but these are busy people and only so many IO's work on all these applications. It takes time but the greatest things come with time. Just always communicate with each other and keep each other strong. This is only temporary for now.

Hey Love_Yong,

What really frustrates me is that I know people who came to Canada in the working class and they work in bars, restaurants... they don´t have a degree and I have 2 and I couldn´t apply for the Skilled Worker class because my 2 diplomas are out of the list. I couldn´t apply for it inland because I don´t have a formal job offer here... and to have a job offer you´ve got to have your OWP... :(

Maybe I should have came here as a student, then apply for a OWP and then for the residence... anyway, I will get my OWP in 7 months, when they approve the stage 1 for my application. I´m doing some volunteer work and studying at UofT, it will help me pass the time.

Thanks for your reply! ;)

If you are studying in UofT, then try to find work on campus and then you can apply for on-campus work permit.

Hi adzees
I can´t because it´s not a long term course. I´m taking 4 "Certificates" courses. Each one will take up to 2 months.

Yes, that does indeed sound frustrating but at least you know you will make better choices but you also have to remember that you can't always start at the top so maybe they are doing those jobs until they get their opening. Just a thought. However, I am bit confused by you stating you couldn't apply inland without a job offer? Well it says in your timeline to the side you applied to Vegreville, correct? So have you applied inland spousal? Just want to keep on track here is all. :)

Correct. I applied inland, under the family class (spouse).

Well you don't need a job offer for your OWP for the inland PR application, so you will be okay there. And actually you have a bit closer to 8 1/2 months left to go until you find out about AIP. I am wishing you good luck along with lots of strength and patience. You can make this. If I can and all the people before you could do, so can you and your family. :D

No, no don't you worry. That is just fine. It is totally understandable and I did my fair share as well. You'll be amazed though at the end how much you could adjust to. I am often surprised how we did it but here we are and I am blessed to just be waiting on the PR card to come in now. I wish you the best and you are very welcome. :)

You can always try to get a job with an employer who is willing to get you an LMO while your PR gets processed. I know it is possible, I did it, you may have to settle with a less qualified job for a while- like restaurant workers, hotels, ect. It depends on where you are in Canada also, it is relatively easy to find an employer willing to hire foreing workers in Alberta.
