I have been offered a job by a Canadian company but the employer states I will not get any sponsorship.

I don't know if I can still apply for the work permit.

I have also applied for other jobs with no sponsorship as I feel I have enough funds to relocate on my own.

I'm just not sure now if the work permit and sponsorship go hand in hand or if i can still go ahead with my application.

Responses would be much appreciated.

Questions:

Can i still apply for a work permit with no sponsorship?
Also, if i do get a permanent work contract can I go onto apply for the permanent residency?
If i have a work permit can I take my wife and kids?

Thank you :)

To apply for a work permit, you need a full time job offer from the employer and the employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA (unless you are American and the job qualifies under NAFTA).

Having a work contract doesn't automatically mean you qualify for PR. You can also apply for PR without a work contract if you qualify. You'll need to research Canada's various immigration programs to see what the requirements are and if you qualify to apply. You can find this information here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

If your job is NOC skill level A, B or 0 - then your wife and children can apply to come with you. It will be up to CIC if they are approved or not.

Your options are: apply under the express entry for PR which takes like 4-6 months.
