I am currently on a post-graduate work permit which will expire in 6 months. I have a full time permanent job for two years. I have a total of 3 years of full time work experience in my field of study under PGWP.

I have created the express entry profile but my points are not enough to get the invitation at the moment.

What are my options? I know that PGWP cannot be renewed but can I not apply for a regular work permit? (I have a permanent job)

I think if I have one more year worth of experience, my points should reach high enough to be qualified for an invitation.

So you've been working in Canada for 2 years and your score is too low? What are your language scores?

Listening 7.0
Reading 6.5
Writing 6.0
Speaking 7.0

My IELTS expires in March and I`m planning to take it again. (also, I`m confident that my score will improve)

Basically if you achieve 8 in Listening and 7 in all other sections your score will improve considerably. I don't know what your CRS is so use an online CRS calculator and see your potential score.

He is working on a PGWP, he does not qualify for the points given for a valid job offer. Also, in most cases it is 50 points for a valid job offer, 200 points are only for those with a NOC starting with 00 which is extremely rare to see.

So, in case you do not get an ITA before your work permit expires... options for a new work permit...

1) Ask if your employer is willing to apply for an LMIA.
2) Explore your eligibility under one of the IEC programs - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/eligibility.asp
3) Look into PNP programs (don't know where you are), both express entry and non-express entry.
4) There may be other options (e.g. if you're covered by NAFTA) but don't know your citizenship, NOC, etc.

I am sure that I met requirements for CEC (Canadian Experience Class) in my Express Entry profile however, my current points are about 395!

This year when I complete my 2nd year at the current job, I am hopping that should increase the points and also the new IELTS result will help but I will need some sort of work permit to be able to continue working when my PGWP expires

1) How hard is it for an employer to apply for the LMIA?

3) I am in Ontario. I have looked at the PNP site but its very confusing honestly in terms of what is required at my part and what can be done by my employer

4) I hold an Indian passport. My NOC I think is either 2281 or 2282

I have been in Canada since 2011. so here is my advice based on what I have experienced -

1) Do not get enrolled in a one-year course. 3 years is the best because it gives you ample amount of time to get adjusted to the culture and make a network with skillful people.

2) If a three-year course is outside of your budget, opt for 2 years, that way the PGWP will be of 3 years. In my case, I had a full-time permanent job since day one of my PGWP

3) After completing your 1st year as a full-time employee on PGWP, you are ELIGIBLE to apply for the express entry under CEC but that does not mean you will get an invitation! (I`m still waiting)

- However, your situation could be different. It all depends on what else do you have and based on that your score can take hit or hike. I am in my mid-30s and my background is in tech. I have an advanced diploma with few tech certifications.

If you have a bachelors or masters from your home country, that may/may not affect your score.

Hope this helps. Best of Luck.

Canada is a great place by the way. You will love the people here. And, don`t worry about the cold. It comes and goes.

Thank you for the experience, please be my mentor :D
- I have tried applying for Masters in many universities but unlucky did not get admission in any of them, tried for 2 years post graduate diploma but still got rejected guess my luck is bad. I have been working for 8 years after my graduation.
- I finally got offer letter from two colleges in Ontario both are one year course, so i am planning to do both the course one year after another to get total two years then apply for PGWP to get a 3 years permit. I saw people in this form getting 3 years PGWP after doing two 1 year courses PG Diploma.

This is my plan for getting PR in Canada, hope it works.

It is not easy. First they have to try hire a Canadian and show that they cannot.

3) I am in Ontario. I have looked at the PNP site but its very confusing honestly in terms of what is required at my part and what can be done by my employer

You need a minimum CRS score of 400 to be eligible under the Ontario Express Entry stream. If you improve your language test score, this might be an option.

Of the other streams - likely you would only be eligible for the
International student stream - but you would have to apply within 2 years of graduation; if your PGWP is due to expire in 6 months, you are probably not eligible any more.

4) I hold an Indian passport. My NOC I think is either 2281 or 2282
In that case, I am not aware of other programs...
