I submitted my application in late Oct and the consulate recieved it on Nov 1st.
I waited for one month and there is nothing, I have to go back home for Christmas, so I went to the Consulate in NYC yesterday.
I standed in queue as the other applicants did and an officer led us in at 8:00 am.
Than a black gentleman asked us that who is here to get a passport instead of to apply for the visa.
Just tell him when the consulate recieved your materials and he would give you an urgent form. you should have your passport number.
after you fill out the form, you would get a number.
Then just come back to the consulate again at 1:00 pm. the officer there would tell you what to do. I waited in the room like other applicants for about 45min. than I got my passport back.
BTY, my friend, who send her application with me together, had already revieced her visa through the mail.
So if you really need your passport, just walk in the consulate and ask them politely.
