I am sponsoring my common-law partner, but am unsure as to when I received my citizenship, as required on Sponsor form IMM1344a - question 10. I was born in the USA but moved to Canada when I was a baby. My mother is American and my father hold dual US/CAN citizenship. I received my CAN citizenship certificate and card when I was 14 (I think, but am not sure of the exact date).

Should I just GUESS when I became a citizen, or is there some place I can find out the exact date?

Thanks

For an application for a search of citizenship records, see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/search.asp

Just input your best guess, hopefully you can at least narrow it down to a year. Provide a quick note to explain why you may have left it blank, this is not something that should have any effect on your application. Do be sure to include the required copy of your citizenship card or passport to prove your citizenship status.

When your application is being processed, a complete search will be done of your records and the exact date will be determined by the officer.
