Hello!
I am IIT, Delhi Graduate (M.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering and M.Sc. from University of Alberta. Presently I work for one of the biggest MNC in India, Siemens, AG in India for over 2 years now. I have very valuable experience in Thermal and Fluid Mechanics and Renewable Energy and have also worked in Canada in Renewable energy sector for about 3-4 months on part time basis. Also, I am PR of Canada from past 10 months. Presently I am desperately looking for opportunities in Canada right from India. I am NOT p.Eng yet. So if someone can tell me:

1. What is the current job scenario in Canada? How hard recession has hit Canada?

2. I am planning to come to Canada in March-April 2010 and look for job opportunities there as it is difficult to make impression sitting from India. Is it good idea to land up in Canada without job offer?

3. Does anyone knows any job agent who could help me to look for job opportunities in Canada right from India?? Job agent who could help me to get in touch with prospective employers there. Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,
Pelvil

Siemens in Canada has a bunch of engineering positions open. Have you checked it out?

BCKev:

Yes I am very much aware of the positions in Siemens Canada. However, its especially difficult to get there as you need the clearance from the local team especillay your immediate boss, then bosse's boss and so on. Unless there is bridge assignment just like for IT peoples its not too easy to apply for any suitable position internally.

If you know please let me know any agent who could help me.

Thanks

I have no idea about the job scenario for engineers but it's always a good idea to try to set up some interviews before you go on your trip.

Here are some job search engines:

I met an engineer from Iran at my citizenship ceremony. He told me that he landed in Toronto, probably in 2004 so already a while ago. He went there because he had family there but he couldn't get a job. He said he spent 6 months doing jobs like security guard and taking courses on how to make his CV more Canadian at newcomers centres (which he by the way said was not very helpful, he said they mostly seem to want your SIN so they can charge the government for helping you but they will only tell you common knowledge things, no real tips). Anyway, he was getting so frustrated that he was getting ready to move back to Iran and ask for his old job back when he got a lead about a job in Alberta so he got that job, moved and was very happy with the way things had turned out for him.
