I am on Open work permit. How to extend or apply for another WP?

Hello all,

I have SOWP and I am working for my employer inside Canada only. Previously I had ICT( which is expired now) of other provience from my same employer however due to location constraints I applied SOWP.

My question is, my SOWP will expire on Feb 2026 but I want to get new WP or extension. I am working for same employer and base location of employer is India.
How to get new WP or extend/change condition on SOWP? Is it possible to apply new WP from inside Canada?

You would need to be working for a Canadian employer and they would need to obtain LMIA (unless LMIA exempt). If approved you can apply for a closed work permit.

Yes, my company is LMIA exempt, they can provide necessary documents to apply closed work permit.
But my question is, can I apply closed work permit from Inside Canada? My Spousal Open Work Permit is valid for a year at least.

As ICT(Closed work Permit) - not sure but can't be applied while in Canada, it's intra transfer so need to be applied from home country, this is what my present understanding.

SOWP - valid till my spouse ICT visa, if she's extend then mine can be applied to extend.

But I am checking way to get separate work permit which will allow me to stay in Canada without my spouse visa conditions.

You can't apply for an ICT. You are already working in Canada.

You can certainly apply for a closed work permit now if your employer either obtains an approved LMIA or the job is LMIA exempt.
