I am a grad student. I have been approved for H-1b to work in the US as well (for client visits), but I am yet to go to the US consulate for my H-1b stamping.

I am currently here on a study permit, which expires in a few months. My concern is that the visa officer might not stamp the H-1b on my passport, as I do not yet have a PWGP (which I understand I can apply only after receiving my final transcripts or a letter from my university stating that I've completed all requirements).

Is this a valid concern, or should I still be able to get H-1b stamped before applying for my PGWP?

Or instead, could I apply and get my PGWP approved early, BEFORE I get my H-1b stamped?

I dont think there is a relation between PGWP and H1B. However the job in US, does it require for u to complete the degree that ur perusing in canada? What I mean to say is does the job offer letter say, lets say for example Masters as a requirement or bachelors. If it says Masters then u need a masters degree and if it say bachelors u need that degree etc.

My job offer is in Canada. HOWEVER, I am expected to travel to the US frequently on client visits, therefore they applied for a H-1b on my behalf (which got approved).

First- you do not need H1B for client visits to US. All you need is a business visitor visa that allows you to do business/client meeting for short duration.

Second - You can apply for your PGWP as soon as you get all your results/grades on your transcript. You must have your transcript or your degree or both to apply for PGWP. Normally convocation/degree is given in June, however transcript will be available by 2nd week May after your exams - you can apply with that.

Like Mead said - PGWP and H1B have no relation. Two different countries. US only cares that you have a valid residence permit in the country from which you are applying.

Thanks. However, I do need H1b for client visits to the US (I'm joining an MBB firm), and the firm's lawyers had already applied on my behalf.

If I could push you further...would the US only care that I have a valid CURRENT residence permit (which I do - a study permit + TRV), or that I need to have a valid residence permit to go back to after my H1b expires? I'm asking because I'm concerned they might have doubts about my residence intention, which I have no interest in.

again there is no relation between H1B and ur canada visa. H1B is nomally issued for 3 years and depends on ur job offer and job salary in US . after the 3 year H1B visa u can extend H1B again for 3 more years. H1B is a US work visa and once issued u can stay in US temporally for 3 years. to give an example H1B is like PGWP in canada for instance a work visa. Once H1B expires u either have to go to ur home country or canada , US does not care where u go as long as u leave US. The question ur asking is like will canada immigration care about ur US status for issuing PGWP.
